Listuguj Veterans Memorial Committee Update

The Listuguj Veterans Memorial Committee (LVMC) has met and decided that due to the community safety risks surrounding COVID-19 there will be no community dinner held this year on November 11, 2020.

Instead, to honor the veterans this year, the committee has decided to develop a 2021 calendar that will feature our veterans.

If you wish to have a family members or friend who is a Listuguj veteran featured in the calendar, please send all pictures to the email listugujveterans@gmail.com. Please include with the picture:

1)      the full name of the veteran

2)      the name of the war they fought in, and

3)      any other information you wish to highlight (ie. Rank, honors, etc.).

Additionally, on November 11, 2020, from 11:00am to 3:00pm, the LVMC will be hosting an event where community members can bring their personal photos of community veterans and have them scanned to be featured in the calendar. The event will take place at the Veterans Memorial Building on Pacific Drive, across from the LMDC building. Please note, only 1 person will be allowed into the building at a time. All COVID-19 protocols, including wearing of masks, hand sanitizing, and social distancing must be respected.

We thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to continuing honoring and memorializing our community veterans in the years to come.

On behalf of the Listuguj Veterans Memorial Committee,

Thank you

Friday, October 23, 2020 – The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government (LMG) is announcing one (1) new confirmed case and one (1) recovered case of COVID-19. The total number of active cases in Listuguj is one.

The LMG and Quebec Public Health are working collaboratively to monitor the situation closely and to provide on-going support to those affected. At this time, Quebec Public Health has determined that there is no risk to community members and residents, as the individual has been at home self-isolating.

The LMG can confirm, with the consent of the individuals who have tested positive, that the new positive case is directly related to the first and is contained to that single household. Members of the household are currently in isolation and are taking every step to contain the virus. We thank them for their on-going efforts in helping us keep each other safe.

We are pleased to report that the first individual who tested positive for COVID-19 has recovered. At this time, they will continue to self-isolate at home.

This is a reminder to all community members and residents of the importance of following the recommended Public Health advice:

  • Monitor for symptoms;
  • Stay home when sick;
  • Wash hands frequently;
  • Practice proper cough etiquette; and
  • Wear masks when out in public.

COMMUNITY RELEASE

October 16, 2020

Listuguj Confirmed Case Update

LISTUGUJ, Gespe’gewa’gi – On October 15, 2020, the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government (LMG) announced a confirmed case of COVID-19 in Listuguj. We knew that this day would eventually come. We, as a community, have planned and are prepared to handle the task ahead of us.

“As Listugujewaq, our strength is our people. In times of hardship, we can always trust that we have each other. That we support one another and that our love for our community and Nation is strong. This pandemic is no different. I am calling on all of us to stand strong and united as we work to keep each other and our most vulnerable community members safe.”  – Chief Darcy Gray

The LMG is collaborating with Quebec Public Health to ensure all those affected are contacted. On Friday, October 16, our government initiated Step 7 of the Listuguj Emergency Plan, which triggered the closing of our government buildings. The closure will allow time for Quebec Public Health officials to complete their contact tracing and for the LMG to determine next steps.

Please be advised, all LMG buildings (with the exception of critical services) will be closed Monday, October 19, to allow time for Quebec Public Health to finish contract tracing. Additional information regarding next steps will be available once contact tracing is complete and we have a fuller picture of our current situation. An update will be provided Monday by 5:00 p.m.

Post Office Closed

Due to the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government closure today, October 16, 2020, the Listuguj Post Office will be closed to the public. This is a precautionary measure and will allow them to do a deep clean of the building. Postal services will resume Monday, October 19, 2020.
