For many years, the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government provided small grants and loans to Listuguj community members through the Listuguj Enterprise Assistance Fund (LEAF).
The purpose of this program was to help Listuguj Mi’gmaq entrepreneurs to establish viable businesses, to create employment opportunities and to facilitate greater economic wellbeing for the participants, as well as the community.
The LMG is working towards re-administering the grants and loans program. If future grants or loans are to be considered mechanisms need to be put in place to ensure fairness and to protect the collective interests of the community.
In August, the LMG Economic Development Unit began elaborating on an Economic Development Strategy (EDS) using a collaborative approach. The main objectives of this Strategy are to facilitate the collaboration between organizations involved in economic development and to identify what needs to be done in the next few years. This need came from community members during the CCP (Comprehensive Community Planning) meetings, which took place in Listuguj from 2012 to 2014.
Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, pursuant to section 3 of the National Aboriginal Economic Development Board Order, appoints Victoria LaBillois of Listuguj, Quebec, to be a member of the National Aboriginal Economic Development Board, to hold office during pleasure for a term of three years, effective June 18, 2018.
