The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government’s Finance Directorate is involved in the oversight of all other departments’ financials and main goal is to ensure the operations run smoothly. The departments that Finance provides services to include: Administration, Finance, Listuguj Community Health Services, Listuguj Community Social Services, Listuguj Education Directorate, Natural Resources, and Public Security.
With Revenue and Expenditures reaching $48 million a year, nearly a $1 million will flow through the Finance department each week. With the quantity of information that flows through this department, The LMG relies on the Finance department to ensure the timeliness of the administration of all items financial.
There are approximately 200 full-time and temporary employees at the LMG. However, over the year with seasonal and project workers, the LMG employs as many as 750 people annually. Seasonal employment peaks in the spring, summer and fall primarily in Administration, Capital & Infrastructure and Natural Resources. As well, students are employed annually. The annual salary amount is in excess of $15 million per year and requires diligent review and analysis.
Finance plays a key role in managing the day-to-day functions of the LMG’s affairs in the areas of employment, strategy and agreement compliance.
