Urban Post Secondary Summer Student Employment Program

Summer Career Placement 2017

Full time Post Secondary students are encouraged to apply for summer student employment programs in the urban area where they reside during the school year. The goal of the Urban program is to enable young people to acquire work experience relevant to their field of studies.

Students residing out of province are directed to the provincial aboriginal organizations that administer the urban program for their area (called Aboriginal Human Resources Development Agreement holders – AHRDA). Each Centre has a Case Manager/Counsellor that is available to assist you with your summer student employment search.

Depending on where you reside for schooling, the following is a list of the centers where you can apply to for funding for your potential summer employment or to inquire about postings they may be aware of:

The LMG Will Administer RL-31 Slips

The band will administer RL-31 slips.

There has been a large response to the RL-31 slip for Solidarity Tax purposes. The LMG will be issuing these documents to eligible community members who meet the following criteria. 

The LMG will start to issue these slips to community members who:

  • Own their own home (fully paid from the band)
  • Rent their home;
  • Lease to Own
  • Section 95; and
  • Apartment complexes

To get your RL-31 slip we will require you to:

  • Come in fill out the required forms;
  • Bring in proof of address;
  • IF you are a homeowner with a tenant we will provide you with a RL-31 for yourself and your tenant; and
  • Only people who live in the community.

If you have already filed your taxes for this year you can still redeem the additional Solidarity Tax Credit by contacting Revenue Quebec to inform them that there are additional forms to be sent in.

Please allow two to three weeks to receive your paperwork depending on the amount of intake that the LMG receives.

Public Security PSA: Telephone Scams

URGENT: Please advise the public this is ongoing.

PHONE SCAM–PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Listuguj Police Department are warning the public about the numerous phone scams active in the community.

This message is to advise the public of Listuguj that a series of complaints have been received regarding telephone calls from individuals soliciting personal and banking information over the telephone.

Recently, calls from the community report one active scam, in which the caller claims to be from the satellite filters are to be installed by the service provider with the caller Identification of Listuguj Police Department asking for personal and banking information.

The Listuguj Police Department is asking the public not to relay personal or any banking information over the telephone for any reason. If anyone has been a victim of this scam, please contact the Listuguj Police Department at (418)788-2003 or at the non-emergency line at (418)788-2334 during business hours during the work week.

Project: Mi’gmaq Language Curriculum

Summary and Background

The purpose of this Request for Proposals is to solicit proposals from a qualified consultant for the development of curriculum as well as the development of curriculum material and/or the acquisition of curriculum material for the Mi’gmaq Immersion Programs.

Project Purpose and Description

The purpose of the project is to provide the necessary support to the teaching staff through the development and/or acquisition of curriculum material for course delivery.

The individual would be asked to: Conduct research, facilitate working groups in content development: Develop the structure, content and objectives of new courses; Provide ongoing professional development, training and consultative services to teachers and other professionals; and may administer specialized testing and assessment programs

Project Timeline:

February 13, 2017 through June 30, 2017

Qualifications & Requirements

Fluency in Mi’gmaq

Bachelor’s degree in education

Master’s degree in education may be required

Specialized training or certification in curriculum development

Experience in curriculum development

Work independently and as part of a team, balancing multiple priorities

Excellent written and oral communication

Important Community Announcement: LMDC Funding

Important Community Announcement

Listuguj: October 28, 2016:

The LMDC wishes to inform the community that all available employment and training funds have been committed for this fiscal year.

Clients who are currently participating in an employment or training measure are not affected. All payments will be processed according to the signed agreements. The LMDC will continue to take new applications, to be processed should more funds become available by the Government of Canada.

The LMDC will continue to provide Career and Employment Counseling Services to all community members. As well, Support Services will continue for all existing Clients.

The LMDC will communicate with Emploi-Québec for the procedure to refer Clients to the Centre locale d’emploi (CLE), for funding applications. Once authorization is received, the community will be notified.

The Government of Canada, through the signing of Human Resources Development agreements with Aboriginal People, have been contributing at the same level of funding since 1996. No considerations have been made for increases in population, training costs, minimum wage, operations expenses, etc.

Listuguj Community Health Services is pleased to announce we now offer Remote Patient Monitoring for our clients living with Diabetes.

WHAT IS IT?

The Remote Patient Monitoring Program (RPM) is a direct link from you, in your home, to our Community Healthcare Team.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE?

Its purpose is to empower (allow) YOU to take control of YOUR diabetes with one-on-one support from the Community Healthcare Team.

HOW IT WORKS:

Eligible clients will be provided with detailed teachings about their diabetes. They will also be given the tools necessary to self-manage their diabetes from the comfort of their own home. The Community Healthcare Team will provide you with the support you need to address a holistic approach to your personal health and wellness.

 OTHER BENEFITS:

Enhanced collaboration between clients, their Doctor and the Community Healthcare Team.

Increased patient satisfaction and overall quality of care, because of closer interaction with health professionals, reduced anxiety, as well as reduced emergency room visits and hospital stays.

Listuguj Community Health Services: Diabetic Retinopathy Screening

Listuguj Community Health Services is pleased to announce that we now offer Diabetic Retinopathy screening through telemedicine.

Diabetic Retinopathy is among one of the complication of diabetes, occurring when high blood sugar, blood pressure, and/or cholesterol levels damage the small blood vessels in the retina of the eye over time.

Symptoms of Diabetic Retinopathy:

  • Diminishing vision in one or both eyes that may come about rapidly
  • Blurry or double vision
  • Fluctuating vision
  • Dark floating spots in the field of vision
  • Blank spots in vision

Can Diabetic Retinopathy be prevented?

  • Research has shown that controlling blood sugar and blood pressure levels can delay the development of retinopathy or slow its progression
  • Regular annual eye exams with the ophthalmologist can reduce the incidence, as well as, severity of diabetic retina complications

Who is at higher risk?

  • Individuals living with Diabetes for a longer duration
  • Individuals with uncontrolled diabetes
  • High blood pressure

How is Diabetic Retinopathy treated?

  • Laser therapy is the main treatment for DR and are highly effective
  • Your ophthalmologist with discuss the benefits and risks of treatment with you
