Listuguj Promotes Peaceful Dialogue

(Listuguj, Gespe’gewa’gi – February 26, 2020) — The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government (LMG) wishes to advise the community that the Procureure générale du Québec (PGQ) has taken out a provisional injunction in an attempt to dismantle the solidarity action taking place at the rail line at the start of Gospem Road located within Listuguj Lands.

The LMG is disheartened that the PGQ sought an injunction without prior attempt to engage or communicate with our community to resolve this issue. The injunction was unnecessary and not conducive towards reconciling this issue in a peaceful manner. Further concerns remain as the injunction was not served in accordance with the protocols of the Listuguj Police Department (LPD).

At this point in time, peaceful protestors remain at the rail line and their physical safety remains a priority for the LMG. Let it be known that the LMG has no intention of forcefully removing peaceful protestors from the rail line. We respect their right to peacefully protest and will continue to ensure their physical safety.

“As N’nu’g we have a collective responsibility to protect the land and our relations. The LMG is open to facilitating discussions towards a peaceful resolution. We remain hopeful that solutions can be reached through respectful dialogue,” Chief Darcy Gray.

March Pop Up Contest – Listuguj Mi’gmaq Community Plan

It’s just about that time again! I’m getting ready to host my March Pop Up Contest (which will be on Monday March 9th). If you didn’t see me last month, I will be targeting different areas in the community this time around. The pop up contest is to help educate community members on the LMCP (Listuguj Mi’gmaq Community Plan) and help promote items from the plan that departments/programs are doing.

I’m asking all community programs, departments or organizations to please reach out if you have anything you would like me to help promote! Anything you and/or your team is doing that supports our LMCP. Remember, our four action areas are:

–        Healthy Community

–        Environmental and Natural Resource Stewardship

–        Entrepreneurship & Employment

–        Mi’gmaw Laws and Governance

Watch out for my promo on the LMG Facebook page and community radio stations that will include the answers to my questions coming next week! Have a great end of February.

Your LMCP Coordinator, Alexandra Barnaby-Willett

FROM:               First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Health and Social Services Commission (FNQLHSSC)

SUBJECT:        Midwifery bachelor’s degree program: One spot reserved for First Nations and Inuit students

The FNQLHSSC is pleased to announce that a spot will henceforth be reserved for First Nations and Inuit students in Quebec wishing to register for the bachelor’s degree program in midwifery, which is offered exclusively by the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR).1 This is an important step forward for women, babies and entire families who will be able to benefit from care and support at birth better suited to their physical, psychological, cultural, emotional and spiritual needs.
