Community Announcement – Welcoming message to the First Nation Hospital Liaison (Maria)

The Listuguj Community Health Services is pleased to welcome Ms. Jessika Pepin, RN as the new First Nation Hospital Liaison with Maria Hospital.

We were able to bring Jessika on board through our collaboration with Gesgapegiag Health and Community Services.  She will work directly with clients/patients, community leaders, and other programs and services within the three organizations to assist the CISSS in implementing the services required to meet the needs of the First Nation communities of the Chaleur Bay region.

She will perform a wide range of services for our community members at Maria Hospital, including roles as advocating for clients during the development of their hospital discharge plans, to the presentation of these plans to internal community resources to ensure continuity of care (i.e., LCHS Home & Community Care Program; Social Services; Families First, etc.)

The direct benefit to our clients for having a strong resource such as Jessika at Maria Hospital will be to overcome the potential language barrier with service providers, and to have someone help navigate the Health Care System at a time when our health issues make us feel vulnerable, and at times, misunderstood.

Please join me in welcoming Jessika to her new role with us as the First Nation Hospital Liaison at Maria Hospital.

COVID-19 Update: Listuguj COVID-19 Guidelines Update

COVID-19 Update: Listuguj COVID-19 Guidelines Update

The Listuguj Unified Command understands that there may be confusion over the ever-changing measures within the Province of Quebec regarding COVID-19.  Changes are happening quickly, and numerous ‘sources’ of information contribute to confusion and ‘mixed messages.’  As a First Nation Community, our social inter-connectedness makes us more vulnerable to the spread of COVID-19 than any township or municipality in the Province of Quebec.

Listuguj Unified Command has used the Quebec Public Health Measures for the Gaspesie – Illes de la Madeleines Region as a ‘guide’ for the measures put into place within our community. We take their professional opinions based on science and mold them to fit our reality within the community, all in an effort to minimize the spread of COVID-19 in Listuguj.  As such, to further safeguard our members, we will follow the ‘Regional’ QC Public Health Measure for a Ten (10) day Isolation Period for anyone with a positive test result (Rapid Test or PCR).

We are pleased to say that with the increased availability, acceptance and use of the BTNX Rapid Response COVID-19 Test in Listuguj, our community members now conduct their own ‘contact tracing’ and follow the isolation measures all to limit the spread of COVID-19 among their family members and friends.

These private test results, coupled with the delay in receiving updated data from an overwhelmed Public Health Data system means we can no longer report, with any accuracy, the daily number of positive cases in our community.

The Unified Command continues to meet and is assessing our evolving situation. Changes may be required as more information becomes available.

We continue to urge recommended health practices of wearing a mask, washing hands frequently, social distancing, and practicing proper cough etiquette.

The Listuguj Unified Command is reporting 2 new cases within the Community for Tuesday, December 27, 2021.

The active case count is now 2.

We ask that community members maintain their continued diligence and remain proactive.

With the onset of the Omicron Variant, the holiday break will see a rising trend of confirmed cases within and outside the local area from the increased travel and gatherings. While the number of confirmed cases may grow quickly, this surge of infections was anticipated by Public Health.

The best practice for the Health and Well-Being of the community is that we continue that follow public health guidelines such as handwashing, sanitizing, mask-wearing, social distancing, and receive testing when needed.
