Summary of Function:

The Alaqsite’w Gitpu School (AGS) is looking for Educational Assistant (EA) who will be responsible for providing academic and behavioral support services to students in a school setting. The duties of an Educational Assistant will vary depending upon the needs of the student(s). The EA reports to the Vice Principal of Special Education.

Job Duties:

· Maintain a professional image and demeanor with all employees, management, executives and visitors at all times.

· Facilitates student learning both individually and with small groups of students.

· Supports learning and skill development in all subject areas.

· Assists students with learning activities and/or independent study projects developed by teacher/team.

· Supports and works within the classroom management structure, discipline plan and expectations of students as outlined by the teacher.

· As required, attend student-specific support team meetings.

· Follows guidelines followed by AGS to protect the safety and well-being of children, youth and staff.

· Supports occupational and physiotherapists, speech-language pathologists, vision and hearing-impaired specialists and nurses in the delivery of required services.

· Maintains confidentiality.

· Desire and ability to work in a Mi’gmaq school setting that prioritizes Mi’gmaw worldviews, knowledge and cultural values.

· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team player.

· Good written and oral communication skills.

· Basic organizational skills and recordkeeping skills.

· Ability to work independently and follow instructions.

· Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations.

· Other related duties, assigned by immediate supervisor.

Requirements:

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Post-secondary courses in programs such as Early Childhood Development, Educational Assistant, Youth Worker, Rehabilitation Worker, or equivalent post-secondary courses in a related area from a recognized institute and or related experience would be an asset.

· Strong knowledge of Mi’gmaq culture and community.

Summary of Function:

Seeking an energetic, collaborative, lifelong learner to join our teaching staff in the recruiting language. Under the supervision of the AGS Principal, the Mi’gmaq Immersion Teacher is responsible for teaching students assigned to him/her in order to meet subject outcomes, standards and objectives that are set forth by the Listuguj Education Directorate. Summary of Function:

The School bus driver, under the direction of the (Service Manager), will primarily be responsible for transporting students of various ages to and from their homes and their respective schools in an effective and safe manner. To provide flexible, consistent transportation for students with exceptionalities in school and allow or more inclusive participation in land-based learning, and field trips.This individual will be responsible for following established routes and ensuring the established schedule is followed so passengers arrive at their destination on-time. The School Bus Driver Job Description will maintain the health and safety of the students while transporting, loading and unloading the students, and ensure that all policies and procedures are followed while operating the vehicle.

Job Duties:

  • Safely deliver students to and from their homes and schools, following the assigned time schedule.
  • Transport students on special excursions.
  • Assist students with boarding and exiting and while crossing the street while bus is stopped.
  • Adhere to and enforce bus safety rules and standards.
  • Comply with traffic regulations to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
  • Resolve any conflicts in a positive, respectful and proactive manner.
  • Complete vehicle inspections prior to departing for any trip.
  • Complete vehicle cleanliness inspections post trip, removing any garbage. Place items in lost and found bin or remove to designated location.

Summary of Function:

The AGS Alternative Education Teacher reports directly to the Vice Principle of Special Education. The Alternative Education Teacher will administer daily lessons for students provided by the classroom teacher. They will use specialized techniques, which will include cultural practices, traditions, and provide instruction in identified academic, cultural areas which meet individual and group needs of students who have been unable to succeed in the general classroom environment. Summary of Function:

The Mentor/Building Safety Coordinator role is a combined position at the Alaqsite’w Gitpu School. The Mentor/Building Safety Coordinator will report as follows: for issues related to Mentoring, the incumbent will report to the Vice Principal of Special Education and for Building Safety concerns, the incumbent will report to the AGS Principal.  The incumbent will work closely with the Guidance Counselor, Teachers, and external services to gain knowledge about specific students and the challenges they face.

Job Duties:

  • Implement behavior modification programs for students who are having difficulties adhering to classroom and school schedules/routines.
  • Assist students in understanding the school expectations, developing self-discipline, and improving self-concept.
  • Provide individual mentoring with student(s).
  • Work, as needed, with the parents of students with behavioral difficulties to assist them with developing successful skills and interventions, and behavior management tools.   Delivery life skill programs with students with the main focus on safety.
  • Work closely with the AGS Principal, Vice Principal of Special Education, and the Methods and Resources Department.
  • Develop security and safety plans for all three Education and Training Building   Workplace/Student accident follow up and prevention.
  • Building safety inspections of facilities including the playground   Write reports on student progress.
  • Immediate intervention for urgent safety situations.
  • Educate and instruct students on bus safety procedures, fire drills, Halloween precautions, etc.
  • Educate students on the impacts of lateral violence in school.

Requirements:

  • 2-years post-secondary, and 2 years’ experience in either of the related fields.
  • Ability to work as part of an educational team.
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Background and Vulnerable Sector check.
  • Must be willing to take Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training.

Job Duties:

  • Implement math curriculum.

The Enrichment and Neurodiversity Coordinator is responsible for facilitating learning and well-being through specialized educational programs for students from Alaqsite’w Gitpu School. The Enrichment and Neurodiversity Coordinator provides direction to the Neurodiversity Lead, Teachers and Intervention Workers. The incumbent discusses student problems and progress with parents to ensure constant communication about the child’s development and will work closely with the Methods and Resources Department.

Job Duties:

  • Reads each individual child’s files in his/her class and is knowledgeable about their medical and developmental histories.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a related field.
  • Must be willing to take Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training.
  • Strong knowledge of Mi’gmaq culture and community.
  • Must provide a Criminal Record & Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of First Nation needs, issues, concerns and aspirations.
  • Mi’gmaq/French language is considered an asset.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification or must be willing to take training.
  • In accordance with the LMG policy, priority will be given to qualified Listuguj First Nation applicants in accordance with our commitment to Indigenous employment equity.
