Summary of Function:

Reporting to the Vice Principal of Special Education, the Early Childhood Interventionist/ Liaison provides support to children and youth with neurodiversity. The incumbent is responsible for providing a wide range of services to children and youth with neurodiversity, their families, agencies, and schools and other providers. The Early Childhood Interventionist/Liaison works collaboratively with the Methods and Resources Department, Listuguj Community Health Services, Listuguj Mawo’ltijig Child Care Center, and other Service Providers (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy) as well as providing support to other staff at the Alaqsite’w Gitpu School.

 

Job Duties:

· Maintain a professional image and demeanor with all employees, management, executives and visitors at all times.

· Work closely with children and youth with neurodiversity.

· Deliver Individualized Educational Plans (IEP) tailored to individual student needs.

· Establish learning goals for individual students with corresponding timeframes.

· Create and use visual support as required to assist students in managing their daily activities.

· Plan and enact behavior and health protocols.

· Build and maintain relationships with families, schools, community organizations and government agencies.

· Create and deliver teaching procedures corresponding to a student’s individual abilities, using methods appropriate to the established learning goals.

· Assess students’ progress towards established learning goals.

· Deliver social stories to students as needed.

· Assist staff as required by resolving students’ behavioral issues, immediate and long term.

· Explain teaching programs and students’ progress towards learning goals to student’s family members, agencies and colleagues.

· Maintain user service confidentiality at all times, unless disclosure is specifically authorized.

· Any other related duties assigned.

Requirements:

· 2 years of experience in a role working with children, youth or adults with neurodiversity.

· Post-secondary education in a related field.

· Current CPI certification or willing to take training.

· Current First Aid/CPR certification or willing to take training.

· Must provide a Criminal Record & Vulnerable Sector Check.

· Strong understanding of all facets of neurodiversity.

· Experience working with and managing difficult behavior.

Health Liaison Manager/Social Worker

Summary of Function:
The Health Liaison Manager / Social Worker will function as a Social Worker for clients of the Listuguj Community Health Services Maternal Child Health Program, Cancer Program and Home and Community Care Program. This position will also support the Adult Care Foster Program for the Listuguj Community Social Services Directorate. Their specialty will allow LCHS to provide social support from the health perspective, conduct assessments and evaluations, bridge gaps between internal and external organizations and advocate for clients to further meet their health needs.

Job Duties:
• Actively participates in the development of Individual Service Plans with the LCHS Evaluation and Review Committee, clients, and assigned Home Care Workers.
• Ensure that services are provided to the persons who need them, such as those with short-term illnesses, chronic illnesses, the handicapped, or families in crisis.
• Assesses the social and emotional needs of HCCP, MCH and Cancer Program clients.
• Provides direct counseling / social services to clients and their families.
• Coordinates social work services and client referrals between the LCHS and other agencies.
• In conjunction with the clients, intervene in contentious situations.
• Tracks and follow-up on all referrals made to external resources/agencies.
• Establishes referral network/linkages with outside agencies for clients and their families.
• Participates in the LCHS Home & Community Care Eligibility Review (ERC) Committee.
• Serves as an advocate for patients’ rights within health care institutions and serves as a mediator.
• Remains available for crisis intervention social work as the need arises or arranges for such coverage by emergency social services.
• Maintain detailed client files in accordance with LCHS policies and procedures.
• Participate in community member support systems such as the LCHS Crisis Management Team.
• Assist with the delivery of other LCHS programs and activities, i.e. Flu Clinics, etc.
• Assist with the delivery of other LMG service providers programs and activities as required.
• Participate in the monthly LCHS Program and Planning Meeting and monthly staff meeting.
• Ensure that program objectives are met and reported through financial and activity reporting.
• Provides the Director with monthly, quarterly activity reports.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in social work and a valid license to practice in both the provinces of Quebec and New Brunswick.

Summary of Function:

The Mentor/Building Safety Coordinator role is a combined position at the Alaqsite’w Gitpu School. The Mentor/Building Safety Coordinator will report as follows: for issues related to Mentoring, the incumbent will report to the Vice Principal of Special Education and for Building Safety concerns, the incumbent will report to the AGS Principal. The incumbent will work closely with the Guidance Counselor, Teachers, and external services to gain knowledge about specific students and the challenges they face.

Job Duties:

· Implement behavior modification programs for students who are having difficulties adhering to classroom and school schedules/routines.

· Assist students in understanding the school expectations, developing self-discipline, and improving self-concept.

· Provide individual mentoring with student(s).

· Work, as needed, with the parents of students with behavioral difficulties to assist them with developing successful skills and interventions, and behavior management tools. Delivery life skill programs with students with the main focus on safety.

· Work closely with the AGS Principal, Vice Principal of Special Education, and the Methods and Resources Department.

· Develop security and safety plans for all three Education and Training Building Workplace/Student accident follow up and prevention.

· Building safety inspections of facilities including the playground Write reports on student progress.

· Immediate intervention for urgent safety situations.

· Educate and instruct students on bus safety procedures, fire drills, Halloween precautions, etc.

· Educate students on the impacts of lateral violence in school.

Requirements:

· 2-years post-secondary, and 2 years’ experience in either of the related fields.

· Ability to work as part of an educational team.

· Ability to pass a Criminal Background and Vulnerable Sector check.

· Must be willing to take Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training.

· Strong knowledge of Mi’gmaq culture and community.

· Extensive knowledge and understanding of First Nation needs, issues, concerns and aspirations.

Summary of Function:

Under the supervision of the Mawo’Itijig Mijjuaji’g Director, the Intervention Support Worker (ISW) is responsible for supporting the identified child during daily activities in the childcare setting. The ISW is a part of an integrated team and will provide early intervention support to one child experiencing developmental delays. The ISW is responsible for guiding and implementing developmentally appropriate programs that are strength based, child-centered and family-directed to maximize success. The location of work for the position is at the Mawo’Itijig Mijjuaji’g Childcare Centre.

Job Duties:

  • Supervises, guides, and assists the child in daily activities.
  • Supports the child, through one-on-one intervention, to full inclusion.
  • Works as part of a larger integrated team of professionals.
  • Meets quarterly with Jordan’s Principle-Listuguj, the child’s family, and other resources to review goals and assess progress and make changes to supports where needed.
  • Submits progress reports to the Jordan’s Principle team quarterly.
  • Follows professional assessment recommendations (speech and language pathologist, occupational therapist, pediatrician…etc.)
  • Plans, prepares, and implements daily activities (indoor/outdoor) as they relate to the curriculum.
  • Collaborate with VIVA Therapeutic services.
  • Must follow the child to Head Start/AGS.

Requirements:

  • Education and/or Experience: College Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Educational Assistant (EA) and/or equivalent experience.
  • ASD training is mandatory.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Ability to work well as both, part of an integrated team and independently.
  • Administrative requirements to be able to properly fill out observation forms and create a summary of child needs.
  • Experience working with children with special needs or willing to take training.

Summary of Function:

The Outreach Support Worker provides individual and group counselling, workshops, education sessions and support to women and community members both in-house and in the First Nation community of Listuguj and Gesgapegiag (upon request and/or build a partnership). The worker will possess and demonstrate knowledge of the philosophy, values, purposes, and functions of their roles as educators, serving clients with histories of trauma and communities that are striving to prevent and provide support services for family violence, sexual violence, abusive behaviour, addictions and mental health.

Job Duties:

  • Using a holistic approach, you are to encourage and support Mi’gmaq women and/or community members who are experiencing violence and/or other social determinants to develop and practice a peaceful and healthy lifestyle
  • In collaboration with the Haven House/Apoqnmatultinej Wellness Centre Team assesses the safety of each woman (and her children) and/or client, and supports to reduce risks of violence, including development of a formal safety plan
  • Provides programming relevant to women experiencing Family Violence and related issues
  • Provide support, and information on services to women referred or admitted to Haven House.
  • Accompaniment and support as required or requested to attend important appointments (e.g. legal, medical, court, housing, etc.)
  • Collaborates with other team members regarding daily administrative tasks to ensure efficient and effective operations and service delivery. Ensures participants’ files and related record keeping are up-to-date, accurate and secure
  • Ensures that the participants adhere to the Centre’s Procedures and Guidelines
  • Maintains current knowledge of issues and resources related to abuse and violence
  • Maintains current knowledge of and complies with all organizational policies and procedures
  • Participates in staff meetings, training programs and approved work-related workshops and seminars
  • Performs other related duties as required for the operation needs of the Apoqnmatultinej Wellness Centre.

The Alaqsite’w Gitpu School (AGS) is seeking an energetic, self-motivated individual to work with our teaching staff and students. The focus of the Mi’gmaq Literacy Specialist is to support teachers and students with reading and writing skills through assessments, individualized instruction and collaboration. The Mi’gmaq Literacy Specialist must be able to develop literacy programs, provide professional development for teachers and support staff and support a school-wide literacy initiative.
