The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government is looking for Elder’s who are interested in becoming of member of the Mgnigng Elder’s Circle (MEC).
The office of the Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi Secretariat has been mandated by the Chief Executive Committee of the Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi Assembly (MM) to establish an Mgnigng Elder’s Circle (MEC);
What is the MEC?
The objective of the Mgnigng Elder’s Circle (MEC) to bring together a team of Elder’s, knowledge holders and Mi’gmaq Linguists whose’s purpose is to connect the claim process on matters related to the Mi’gmaq culture, traditions, laws, oral history, legends, and language.
The Mgnigng Elder’s Circle (MEC) will ensure that the Mi’gmaq knowledge on culture traditions and exercise of Mi’gmaq rights on Gespe’gewa’gi are central to the discussions and subsequent to the negotiations process.
The Mgnigng Elder’s Circle (MEC) will advise, impart, and guide the development of the Mi’gmaq worldview perspectives in the negotiations process.
The Mgnigng Elder’s Circle (MEC) will provide directions ,advice and recommendations to the Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi
The Mgnigng Elder’s Circle MEC) will lead spiritual and cultural events related to the claims process, as requested:
The MEC is asked to attend Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi meetings and Annual General Assembly (one a year).
