Listuguj First Nation Air Quality Monitoring

The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government Emergency Management Team is pleased to announce our participation in the Forest Fire Smoke ‘Skweda’ Project. This trial project was developed by the Grand Conseil de la Nation Waban-Aki (GCNWA), located in Wôlinak, Quebec. The project aims to improve community preparedness for fire smoke events.

Forest fire season creates smoke plumes that could affect our community and the health of our population. The objective of the project is to install sensors to monitor community air quality, as well as develop risk mitigation strategies and identify decision-making tools to increase the level of community resilience to these events.

Paul-Emile Auger, Emergency Management Specialist – Technical Services with the GCNWA, along with his team were in Listuguj on August 13, 2020 to work with our Public Works team to install the first of two air quality monitors. These devices will allow the Emergency Management team to obtain air quality data in real-time and implement effective measures for fire smoke emergency management.

Telus Donates Tablets to Reconnect Patients with their Families

We would like to thank Telus for their generous donation of tablets and SIM cards.  The direction that we will be taking in utilizing the tablets will be for our elderly patients who are hospitalized in Campbellton and Maria and not able to connect with family as a result of hospital restrictions.  Family connection is so important for First Nations communities. The tablets will bring much comfort to patients and families during these difficult times.
