Community Notice:

The Listuguj Community Health Services would like your help in compiling influenza stats for the community.  If your child or yourself were diagnosed with Influenza since October 2018, please contact Robin Clement or Caroline Jacques at 418-788-2155 to answer a few short questions.  Thank you!

Freezing Pipes Update

We would like to retract our previous statement that community members are experiencing flooding. The issues are actually due to frozen pipes. This was a communication error and we apologize.

Please remember to keep your faucets running a little to help prevent freezing.

Natural Resources will be closed until noon today due to issues with the pipes. It is being worked on as best as possible. Updates will be provided as they happen.

For anyone experiencing frozen pipes, please call the Band Office, 418-788-2136, and speak to the receptionist. They will transfer you to the designated individual.

Medical Transportation Reminder

The Medical Transportation Program does not provide benefits to clients to pick-up new or repeat prescriptions. This includes insulin, penicillin, heart medication, or cannabis, to just name a few. Please refer to the Medical Transportation Policy Framework clause below:

12. EXCLUSIONS
12.1 Certain types of travel, benefits and services will NOT be provided as benefits under the NIHB Program under any circumstances and are not subject to the NIHB appeal process.These include assistance with:

a) Compassionate travel;
b) Appointments for clients in the care of federal, provincial or territorial institutions (e.g., incarcerated clients);
c) Court-ordered treatment/assessment, or as a condition of parole, coordinated by the justice system;
d) Appointments while travelling outside of Canada, other than as outlined in Section 1 (General Principles);
e) Travel for clients residing in an off-reserve location where the appropriate health services are available locally;
f) Travel for the purposes of a third-party requested medical examination;
g) The return trip home in cases of an illness while away from home other than for approved travel to access medically required health services;
h) Travel only to pick-up new or repeat prescriptions or vision care or medical supply and equipment products where a fitting is not required;

Boil Water Advisory

ATTENTION: Residents of Listuguj

 

As of Monday, August 6th, 2018, the community water supply is not safe to drink.  People using the community water must boil their water first.

Water must be brought to a full boil for at least one full minute if you are going to use it for any of the following: drinking, cooking, making juice drinks or infant formula.  However, you can continue to use regular tap water for hand washing, laundry and washing dishes.

Boil your water until official notice that this is no longer required.

First Nations and Inuit Hope for Wellness Help Line

Do you need support?

It’s now possible to get it online at hopeforwellness.ca

The 24/7 First Nations and Inuit Hope for Wellness Help Line has expanded to include mental wellness counselling and crisis intervention through online chat.

Experienced and culturally competent Help Line counsellors can help if you:

  •        want to talk
  •        are distressed
  •        are triggered by painful memories

If asked, counsellors can also work with you to find other wellness supports that are available near you.

Many people, and particularly youth, are more at ease using the internet and handheld devices to access services and seek support. Online chat services are currently available in English and French and the possibility to offer them in Indigenous languages is currently being explored.

The telephone counselling is available in English, French and upon request in Cree, Ojibway, and Inuktitut.

The Hope for Wellness Help Line can be accessed by phone at 1 855 242-3310 or through the new online chat at hopeforwellness.ca.

Head Start Applications Now Available for September Session

Applications for the new September Session for Head Start students can now be filled out at the Head Start building, 6 B Pacific Drive, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  The deadline to fill out your form is June 8th, 2018.

LCHS: Remote Patient Monitoring

Listuguj Community Health Services is pleased to announce we now offer Remote Patient Monitoring for our clients living with Diabetes.

WHAT IS IT?

The Remote Patient Monitoring Program (RPM) is a direct link from you, in your home, to our Community Healthcare Team.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE?

Its purpose is to empower (allow) YOU to take control of YOUR diabetes with one-on-one support from the Community Healthcare Team.

HOW IT WORKS:

Eligible clients will be provided with detailed teachings about their diabetes. They will also be given the tools necessary to self-manage their diabetes from the comfort of their own home. The Community Healthcare Team will provide you with the support you need to address a holistic approach to your personal health and wellness.

 OTHER BENEFITS:

Enhanced collaboration between clients, their Doctor and the Community Healthcare Team.

Increased patient satisfaction and overall quality of care, because of closer interaction with health professionals, reduced anxiety, as well as reduced emergency room visits and hospital stays.

Listuguj Community Health Services: Diabetic Retinopathy Screening

Listuguj Community Health Services is pleased to announce that we now offer Diabetic Retinopathy screening through telemedicine.

Diabetic Retinopathy is among one of the complication of diabetes, occurring when high blood sugar, blood pressure, and/or cholesterol levels damage the small blood vessels in the retina of the eye over time.

Symptoms of Diabetic Retinopathy:

  • Diminishing vision in one or both eyes that may come about rapidly
  • Blurry or double vision
  • Fluctuating vision
  • Dark floating spots in the field of vision
  • Blank spots in vision

Can Diabetic Retinopathy be prevented?

  • Research has shown that controlling blood sugar and blood pressure levels can delay the development of retinopathy or slow its progression
  • Regular annual eye exams with the ophthalmologist can reduce the incidence, as well as, severity of diabetic retina complications

Who is at higher risk?

  • Individuals living with Diabetes for a longer duration
  • Individuals with uncontrolled diabetes
  • High blood pressure

How is Diabetic Retinopathy treated?

  • Laser therapy is the main treatment for DR and are highly effective
  • Your ophthalmologist with discuss the benefits and risks of treatment with you
