COVID-19 Update – December 31, 2020

Today, as of 2:30 p.m., the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government (LMG) is confirming 6 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total of active cases in our community to 9. One community member remains in the hospital. Two community members have recovered since the beginning of the pandemic. The current active cases are related to close contact with an individual who travelled to our region from an identified ‘Red Zone’ and did not self-isolate.

Listuguj Community Health Services (LCHS) has mobilized and is providing support to all those affected. To get a full picture of our situation, community members are encouraged to get tested if they feel they may have come in contact with the virus (more info below). Please respect the privacy of the families impacted and of those seeking testing.

Important Notices:

  • The LMG will be closed until January 11, 2020. Critical and essential services will continue. Critical/essential staff will be contacted by their Director.
  • The Unified Command continues to meet and are assessing our evolving situation. Next steps will be determined once all the data becomes available.
  • COVID Testing is available for Listuguj residents at the CLSC in Pointe-à-la-Croix, without an appointment, to get tested from Monday to Friday from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (NB Time). They will be open on New Years’ Day. CLSC requires that you limit one person per vehicle for drive-ins.
  • Alternatively, you can make a COVID Testing appointment by calling 1 (877) 644-4545.
  • Psychosocial support is available.

It’s important to understand that we each play an important role in keeping the virus at bay. Each and everyone one of us has a responsibility to our loved ones and our community to keep each other safe by following the health and safety protocols put in place. Please wash your hands, practice proper cough etiquette, social distance, refrain from social gatherings, and wear a mask in public.

Furthermore, we are stressing again that those people traveling to Listuguj from an identified ‘Red Zone’ must self-isolate upon entry. Listuguj Residents traveling to a ‘Red Zone’ overnight must self-isolate upon return. Listuguj residents traveling for a day trip for essential purposes (i.e. work, school, medical appointments, custody arrangements, and necessities of life) are not required to self-isolate but must follow health and safety measures listed on our website.

COVID-19 Update – Testing Available Without Appointment

Following yesterday’s announcement, Quebec Public Health has indicated that any Listuguj resident who is worried about COVID-19 may go to the CLSC in Pointe-à-la-Croix without an appointment to get tested.

While contact tracing is completed, we ask that all residents remain vigilant in following our community’s health and safety guidelines. Quebec Public Health will be in contact with those who may have come in close contact with the virus.

Please keep your ‘bubbles’ small, always wear a mask in public, and continue to practice social distancing, wash your hands regularly and clean frequently touched surfaces in your home.

Flu Shots Update

The Listuguj Community Health Services has started running the 2020 Flu Vaccination Program.  Due to COVID-19, we are operating this program by ‘appointment only’.  A large volume of community members has already called in to schedule an appointment.  We are very pleased that so many of us are taking this flu season seriously.

We are following the COVID-19 safety precautions built into our process to keep our clients and staff members safe.  We are counting on your patience and understanding as we move through the appointment schedules.

  • If you have already called in for an appointment, rest assured that you will be contacted directly to schedule a date and time.
  • If you have not yet called to have your name added to our vaccination list, please do so at (418) 788-2155.
  • And, most importantly, for those of you who have received an appointment, we ask that you please respect the schedule given to you out of consideration for your fellow community members.

Again, your Team at the Health Center is working hard to ensure that every Listuguj community member who wants a flu shot will get one in a safe and timely manner.

Second Confirmed Case, One Recovered

Second Confirmed Case, One Recovered

Friday, October 23, 2020 – The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government (LMG) is announcing one (1) new confirmed case and one (1) recovered case of COVID-19. The total number of active cases in Listuguj is one.

The LMG and Quebec Public Health are working collaboratively to monitor the situation closely and to provide on-going support to those affected. At this time, Quebec Public Health has determined that there is no risk to community members and residents, as the individual has been at home self-isolating.

The LMG can confirm, with the consent of the individuals who have tested positive, that the new positive case is directly related to the first and is contained to that single household. Members of the household are currently in isolation and are taking every step to contain the virus. We thank them for their on-going efforts in helping us keep each other safe.

We are pleased to report that the first individual who tested positive for COVID-19 has recovered. At this time, they will continue to self-isolate at home.

This is a reminder to all community members and residents of the importance of following the recommended Public Health advice:

  • Monitor for symptoms;
  • Stay home when sick;
  • Wash hands frequently;
  • Practice proper cough etiquette; and
  • Wear masks when out in public.
