Full Time Residential Counselor (35 hrs/week)

 

Salary:

  • Entry level – $23.35/hour or $42,500/year; may be higher with experience and advanced

 

Position:

Under the authority of the Executive Director and/or Program & Services Advisor, the Residential Counselor is responsible to provide high quality clinical counselling to our clientele using client centered service that responds to the needs of the clients we serve.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

The successful candidate under the direction of the Executive Director and/or the Program & Services Advisor will be required to perform residential counseling functions in a sensitive, confidential and culturally-oriented environment.

  • Provide residents with basic education about the disease of chemical dependency and its effects on themselves and other systems by facilitating lectures, films and discussions, step groups, and relapse prevention groups;
  • Provide individual counseling to residents in his/her care;
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions;
  • Provide residents information regarding treatment program objectives, policies and procedures;
  • Maintain individual files and progress reports for all residents;
  • Prepare summary reports when requested by referral agents for residents discharged from treatment;
  • Prepare a detailed aftercare plan with each resident in his/her care;
  • Work closely with community resources in relation to aftercare;
  • Work closely with other agencies in matters concerning residents;
  • Attend staff training sessions and workshops as directed;
  • Attend clinical meetings and general staff meetings as directed;
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Executive Director and/or the Program & Services Advisor.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in any of the social sciences along with at least two (2) years of professional experience in chemical addictions counselling;
  • Certified Addiction Counselor and/or a person who is licensed in addiction counselling or professional counselling;
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written;
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner in both individual and group settings;
  • Clear understanding of the disease of chemical dependency and the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous;
  • Possess a valid class 4B driver’s license with a clear driving abstract;
  • Must be able to demonstrate two years of continuous sobriety if recovering from chemical dependency;
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used to develop presentations to correlate with workshops being presented and have knowledge to manage a computerized client database;
  • First Nation ancestry is an asset;
  • Ability to speak Mi’gmag / French is an asset.

Summary of Function:

In order to help guide the development of a Land Use Plan and any relevant laws or regulations to manage land use, it is critical to have a strong understanding of land use planning and management from a Mi’gmaq perspective.  We would like to hire a team of community based researchers to have conversations in Mi’gmaq with the Listuguj community to gather knowledge, values and concerns around past, current and future land use management practices.  The goal is to ensure the Listugujewei Land Use Plan and any future development decisions and practices are rooted in Mi’gmaq worldviews and values. The information gathered from the community will be combined with data collected through studies such as land and water assessments and surveys, land planning assistance, and previous community engagement results to provide a well-informed strategy moving forward.

 

Duties:

  • Assist in developing a set of questions in Mi’gmaq with the goal of understanding Land Use Planning from a Mi’gmaq perspective.
  • Have and record conversations in Mi’gmaq with community members to obtain information on Mi’gmaq knowledge, values, and practices around land use and land management.
  • Gather views on creating laws and regulations to manage the environment, natural resources and development projects.

 

Expectations and Outcomes:

  • Record information gathered from conversations with Elders and Mi’gmaq speakers.
  • Assist in developing a report and presentation to share results with the community.
  • Work collaboratively with the Land Use Planning Team which includes representatives from Natural Resources, Capital & Infrastructure, Economic Development, GMRC and the Land Code Advisor.

 

Experience/Qualifications

  • Fluent Mi’gmaq speaker.
  • Strong knowledge of and connections to the Listuguj community.

 

Additional Information

  • 10-week part-time position (January – March 2019).
  • Flexible hours, based on availability (10-30 hours/week).
  • $20/hour.
  • Reporting to Paige Isaac, Land Use Planning Coordinator and Dr. Fred Metallic, Director of Natural Resources.

Summary of Function:

Under the supervision of the Curriculum Development Manager, the Graphic Designer will design and develop print and electronic materials and resources within LETE. The Graphic Designer will collaborate closely with the Curriculum Team in regards to the overall layout and production design of Mi’gmaq materials and resources.

Job Duties:

  • Design curriculum content, training materials, and other pedagogical materials
  • Thinking creatively and developing new design concepts, graphics and layouts
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Team determine the scope of the project
  • Provide technical advice with regard to design principles, format, print production and text style and layout of a project
  • Illustrate rough draft of images/layouts based on an agreed design brief
  • Review final layouts with curriculum team and incorporate changes if required
  • Amend final design layout and review design for errors before printing
  • Coordinate with external agencies, art services, printers on a regular basis to ensure deadlines are met and material is printed to the highest quality
  • Work with a wide range of media and using graphic design software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, troubleshooting malfunctions, and evaluating new equipment
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Requirements:

  • A College or Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, art or related field
  • Excellent knowledge of software and technologies, specifically with design and photo-editing software
  • Experience in developing Indigenous curriculum and pedagogical materials

Summary of the responsibilities

In keeping with the mission, direction, values and general policies of the FNQLHSSC, the incumbent is responsible for supporting the First Nations communities and organizations in nursing by providing clinical advice and training to the concerned practitioners. The incumbent is also responsible for supporting them in developing and maintaining linkages with Quebec’s health and social services network and other relevant organizations.

 

Main responsibilities

  • Acting as a contact person in the field of nursing for the organization and the First Nations communities and organizations by making his/her expertise available to all.
  • Developing and updating, in collaboration with the communications sector, a variety of clinical or information tools intended for staff working within the First Nations communities and organizations and ensuring their distribution.
  • Collaborating in the development of the nursing practice by developing or adapting training materials intended for the practitioners in the communities and organizations.
  • Analyzing the training needs and offerings to support the services provided by the communities and organizations to foster capacity-building among their staff.
  • Conducting the necessary research and making the necessary contacts among health and social services professionals to develop and/or complete the corridors of medical services allowing for the development of equitable and quality services.
  • As needed, organizing meetings with the Association of Councils of Physicians, Dentists and Pharmacists of Quebec to foster the development of service agreements (collective prescriptions or other types) and address issues that are clinical in nature.
  • Supporting the First Nations communities and organizations during the implementation of new nursing services.
  • Offering clinical support to the communities and organizations throughout the telehealth implementation and follow-up process to ensure the continuum of services.
  • Participating in the updating and validation of methodological guides for data entry associated with the different information management systems.
  • Representing the organization during meetings at the regional and national levels in his/her field of action in order to make known and support the interests of the First Nations in Quebec and Labrador.
  • Contributing to the smooth operation of the organization’s activities while maintaining a climate focused on mutual aid, a concerted approach and collaboration.

 

Employment prerequisites and conditions

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing and five years of relevant experience or technical training in nursing and seven years of relevant experience.
  • A member in good standing of the OIIQ.
  • Experience in knowledge transfer and training.
  • Ability to communicate in both official languages at an advanced level.
  • Knowledge of the programs and services of Quebec’s health and social services network in addition to the federal programs provided to First Nations.
  • Knowledge of the development process of the community health plans is an asset.
  • Marked interest in working with the First Nations.
  • Knowledge and experience related to the First Nations setting constitute an asset.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Internet and electronic mail.
  • Availability to work and travel outside of normal business hours.
  • Hold a valid driver’s licence.
