Main Duties:

Under the supervision of the Sept-Îles Urban Service Centre Coordinator of the Urban Strategy department of the FNHRDCQ, the Employment Counsellor is responsible for assisting urban Aboriginal clients to develop their potential and to integrate the labour market by providing them support through individual counselling. As such, the employment counsellor participates in the preparation, processing and follow­ up of all training and employability-related funding requests, in accordance with the Urban Strategy Guide. The counsellor has the responsibility of providing labour market information, assisting in the planning, implementation and follow-up of programs and services and ensuring effective and professional communication with all stakeholders: clients, employers, colleagues, FNHRDCQ collective and training institution representatives. In order to ensure the success of the training and employability measures provided to clients, the counsellor must keep his/her knowledge in the areas of employment and training up-to-date and be mindful of economic trends and the policies of government partners. The incumbent may be asked to perform other related tasks to be carried out in accordance with the objectives of First Nations, Inuit and urban Aboriginal human resources development initiatives.

 

Requirements:

  • University degree in counseling, social work, counseling, psychology or a relevant field; or
  • College diploma in one of the above fields, combined with experience in the field of training and/or employment;
  • Excellent command of oral and written communication in French;
  • Knowledge of a First Nations language and/or English is an asset;
  • Excellent knowledge of common software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook), Internet and others;
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a car.

 

Skills required:

  • Dynamic, liability, autonomy and ability to work as part of a team;
  • Relevant experience in working with Aboriginal clientele in the areas of employment and training;
  • Discretion, punctuality, organizational skills;
  • Familiar with the labour market and Aboriginal institutions in the Sept-Îles region.

As such, the incumbent has the responsibility of consulting clients, businesses and organizations in order to identify their respective needs in relation to employment. The candidate must actively participate in the development of partnerships with various socioeconomic stakeholders of the milieu and participate in meetings of the various committees in place. The incumbent must find relevant resources and develop or use appropriate tools in order to promote the employability of the clientele. The Employment Development Officer is also responsible for promoting the services and measures among employers and clients in order to promote the employability of these clients. The incumbent may also be asked to perform other related tasks to be carried out in accordance with the objectives of First Nations, Inuit and urban Aboriginal human resources development initiatives.

 

Requirements:

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience in the field of employment and training;
  • Relevant experience with Aboriginal and First Nations clientele in terms of employment and training;
  • University degree in communication, social service or other relevant field; or
  • College diploma in a related field, combined with experience in the field of training and/or employability;
  • Excellent command of oral and written communication in French;
  • Knowledge of a First Nations language and/or English is an asset;
  • Excellent knowledge of common software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook), Internet and others;

Summary of Function:

IT Technician is responsible for timely and effective resolutions to end-user productivity issues as they relate to IT-serviced computer operations. This will be accomplished by performing question/problem diagnoses, guiding users through to issue resolution, communicating technical solutions in user-friendly language, and conducting end-user training where necessary. IT Tech is also responsible for recording problems/solutions within the IT call-tracking system.

 

Job Duties:

  • Resolve end-user IT issues, such as password reset, software questions, PC hardware problems, Internet connectivity, configurations, and so on.
  • Provide one-on-one end-user support and problem resolution via telephone, e-mail, and other vehicles of communication.
  • Diagnose and resolve minor network issues (e.g. LAN access).
  • Recognize and escalate deeper and more complex issues to Tier 2 support technicians.
  • Assist PC and network technicians by troubleshooting software, hardware, and network issues.
  • Where necessary, assist network technicians in installing network interface cards, hubs, switches, network cabling, and so on.
  • Accurately log work orders/IT tickets and resolutions into IT management system software; maintain vigilant maintenance of this process.
  • Prioritize work orders/IT tickets according to severity.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with a college or university degree preferred, or an acceptable combination of education and relevant experience.
  • CompTIA A+/Network+ or MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional) certification preferred.

Summary of Function:

The Cultural and Family Support Worker is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating the delivery of Family Support Services to families and community members through a traditional Mi’gmaq and Indigenous worldview with a particular emphasis on men.

The incumbent uses his/her traditional knowledge to provide expertise and guidance to the Community Services Team in matters of family support services, with a particular emphasis on men. The incumbent is also responsible for the provision of specialized cultural and community based support and prevention services primarily to men, male teens and boys and their families. The incumbent is also responsible for the successful delivery of programs that promote healthy lifestyles and relationships for the aforementioned target group. The incumbent also assists in the provision of community development and educational services to all community members as required.

 

Job Duties:

  • Plan, develop, implement, coordinate and evaluate the delivery of Family Support services to children and their families, through a Mi’gmaq and/or Indigenous world view with particular emphasis on men.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Family Support team as it related to target clientele in particular and general community members in general.
  • Provide specialized community based support and prevention services to men, male teens and boys and their families, using Mi’gmaq and Indigenous traditional knowledge as appropriate and necessary.
  • Deliver programs that promote healthy lifestyles and relationships primarily for men, teen males and boys, and their families as needed.
  • Assist in the coordination and delivery of community development and educational services to all community members as directed.
  • Help ensure facilities, workshops, and other work-related environments are nurturing and safe.
  • Document daily activities, and submit detailed reports on a regular basis.
  • Attend regular staff meetings.
  • Attend workshops, career development and continuing education opportunities to maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of issues that affect the position and targeted clientele groups.
  • Maintains and models appropriate personal boundaries with clients, and refrains from involvement with client personal affairs or other business that may constitute a conflict of interest.
  • Supports clients with problem solving, compatibility, and conflict resolution.
  • Communicates effectively and uses a professional approach with all stakeholders.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Manager of Community Services.

 

Requirements:

  • University or College degree in an associated field preferred
  • Previous community related experience a definite asset.
  • Knowledgeable regarding wellness programs, applications, including the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of wellness
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certificates.
  • Mi’gmaq Language would be an asset
