Added Payment for Social Assistance Recipients

A notice to all Social Assistance recipients, this is to inform you that the Social Assistance Office will be distributing an added payment (Covid-19 related) to all it’s clients.  This added payment will commence on August 1, 2021 until further notice.

Family First Drive-In Movie Event

Family First will be hosting a Drive-In movie this Thursday July 8th, 2021 at the Woodpile. The movie F9: The Fast Saga will start at 9:30pm. Treats will be provided by Northshore Cinema. DJ Floyd of FM Sounds will provide the music.

Ground Breaking Ceremonies

We are very pleased to announce that there will be two Ground Breaking Ceremonies being held on July 9th, 2021. The first one will be for the Elders Facility (Isaac Lane/right off of Dundee Road) at 10:00 am. The second ceremony will be for the new Social Service building which will be located in front of the Gignu at 2:00 pm. We invite you all to join and hope to see you there!

Grief – A Part of Life: Sessions

Families First Support Services will be hosting a four part series of sessions starting July 7th at Etlinpisulti’gw (The Healing Grounds Arbour) exploring the topic of Grief and the Grieving Process. Information about each session with dates and time are provided below.

  • Our sister community Eskasoni First Nation has provided us with their 24/7 Crisis Support Line at 1-902-379-2099 or 1-902-379-2910.
  • Please call 811 in Quebec for 24/7 Crisis Support or if you just need to talk.
  • Restigouche Family Services is available by appointment at 506-753-4161
  • Haven House remains available 24/7 for additional after-hours crisis support by calling 418-788-5544.
  • Families First Support Services is available 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at 418-788-2010.

Continued Community Support

The Listuguj Social Services Directorate has arranged the following support for the community:

  • Tuesday, May 18th, 2021 – The Mental Health Support Services Team from Gesgapegiag will be at LMDC at 8:30 a.m. to provide in-service and support to the teams within the scope of Education to offer clinical advice and supports for interventions in dealing with children impacted by the tragic events Saturday. Christine Metallic and Douglas Pictou from Families First Support Services (FFSS) will be at LMDC to provide ceremonial support to the teams as well.
  • Benoit Lamarche, Criminologist, will meet with the Youth Centre Team at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18th, 2021 to provide an in-service on best practises for supporting both the YC Team in their interventions with the youth as they will most likely have many questions and feelings that will need to be supported during the healing process.
  • Yves Turgeon, Psychologist, will meet with the LPD on Tuesday, May 18th, in the afternoon to introduce himself, his services as well as an opportunity to debrief from the recent incident as first responders.
  • Claude Boucher from the Crime Victims Assistance Center (CAVAC) will be here in Listuguj at the Haven House on Wednesday, May 19th, and Thursday, May 20th, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. to meet with victims impacted by the events on Saturday as well as provide information sessions as needed for resources regarding the court process and what to expect as it may relate to the client base.
  • Lydia Houle, from CAVAC will also be in Listuguj on Tuesday, May 18th, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. and again on Friday, May 21st, 2021 starting at 9:00 a.m. for the day to provide the same services as mentioned above.

Community Support and Grief Counselling

The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government has coordinated various support services for all those in need through this difficult time. All community members are welcome to access the following services:

  • The Listuguj Community Social Services Directorate has arranged for grief counselling starting at 12:00 until 5:00 pm for both today and tomorrow. Services with trained psychologists and therapists are available at the Youth Centre, the Social Services Building and the Elders Lodge. To avoid waiting periods, please call Molly at 418-788-3039 to schedule a time slot.
  • Support is available at the Healing Grounds from 12:00 to 5:00 pm today and tomorrow.
  • There will be soup and sandwiches served each day at 5:00 p.m. at the Healing Grounds.
  • A Sacred Fire will start today at 1:00 pm at the Healing Arbour and will continue until Thursday.

Families First Support Services Survey

Families First Support Services have launched a survey to compile information regarding their past and present services.  Complete this survey by July 30th for a chance to win a prize.

This survey is open to all Listuguj residents who have accessed our services as well as their significant others.  We are a voluntary prevention-based program, striving to meet the needs of ALL our community members.

All responses are CONFIDENTIAL and will only be used by Families First to evaluate and forecast future programming.

Call for Tender – Social Services Building Construction

The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government has released a call for tender for the construction of the new Listuguj Community Social Services building. This new building will address the growing needs of the directorate by bringing its programs together under one roof. The deadline to submit a bid is Friday, May 14, 2021. (New deadline is May 19th, 2021 as per the addendum linked above.)
