2020 Prime Minister’s Award

The 2020 Prime Minister’s Awards competition is now open!

Call for Tenders – Alaqsite’w Gitpu Gina’masutioguom School Extension and Refurbishment

UPDATE:

The deadline for submissions has been postponed to October 18th, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Quebec time at the Natural Resources Directorate.

 

The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government has released a call for tenders for the extension and refurbishment of the Alaqsite’w Gitpu School.  The work includes the expansion of the existing gymnasium, the addition of a stage and cafeteria, as well as the addition of new classrooms and a cultural space.

Traffic Detour – St Anne’s Church

Please be advised that Public Works will be working on the road in front of St Anne’s Church on Wednesday, August 14th, starting at 8:30 a.m.  Traffic will be detoured through the Education Directorate parking lot for most of the morning and possibly into the afternoon.

Motorists should expect short traffic delays.  The LMG encourages community members to drive with caution and thanks them for their patience.

RIG Race Seeking Vendors and Volunteers

Are you interested in being a vendor or a volunteer for RIG Race 2019 on Friday, September 13, 2019?  RIG is a unique adventure and orientation race including several sports such as running, mountain biking, canoeing, swimming and rope challenges.

This event brings in 170 athletes from around 12 different countries, over 100 volunteers, media, sponsors and local populations to the region.  Welcoming activities will be hosted at the Pow Wow grounds all afternoon.

Let me know if you are interested in setting up as a vendor to sell food, crafts, or merchandise.  We are also seeking volunteers to assist in ensuring that the race runs smoothly.  Be a part of the hype and let’s make this a fun community event!

Community Notice from Capital & Infrastructure

The Capital and Infrastructure department is happy to announce that one black garbage bin will be provided for every household in Listuguj in order to improve waste management in our community. You can now come and get your garbage bin at the Public Works Garage.

Only ONE bin per household will be provided by Capital and Infrastructure. If the bin gets damaged, lost or becomes unusable, it will not be replaced by Capital and Infrastructure.

Public Works will only deliver bins to elders and people with disabilities. Please call Public Works (418-788-3047) if you are an elder or are physically incapable of coming to the Public Works Garage and haven’t received it by August 22nd 2019.

Make sure to fill out and sign this waiver in the presence of an LMG representative before taking a bin.

2019 Sneaker and School Supplies Reimbursement Program

Community Notice:

The sneaker and school supplies vouchers/reimbursements begins today, August 12th at the Education Complex for Nursery to Grade 12.

 

Hours are from:

Monday to Thursday:  8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Friday from 8:30 to 12:00 p.m. (until Labour Day)

 

To be eligible for the voucher or reimbursement, students are required to:

  1. Reside in Listuguj and attend the Alaqsite’w Gitpu School, Sugarloaf Senior High School or approved transfers to other schools.
  2. Provide a June school report card. (provincial school students only)
  3. Provide an updated copy of status or medicare card.

 

For students who attend provincial schools in Quebec, proof of registration will be required.

 

A reminder that before a voucher can be released or reimbursement made, we will require the students June report card and updated valid ID.

 

Reimbursements will not be processed for those students who were issued a voucher.  If a voucher has been issued but not cashed, the voucher must be returned before a reimbursement can be made.

 

The Voucher/Reimbursement program will run from August 12th to September 30th.   For more information, call the Education Complex at 418.788.2248.

Call Out for Listugujewaq Elders

Lowd Television Production Inc. is a media productions based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Their primary goal is to produce Indigenous content for a global market. Their team is interested in filming a ‘Vision Quest Documentary’. In doing so, they’ve reached out to the LMG to include video content of our community.

There will be a filming crew/team here on Saturday, August 10th, 2019. They’re hoping to include the voices and perspectives of Listugujewaq Elders who would like to participate in this documentary.

The filming crew is interested in speaking with Listugujewaq Elders, particularly women, who were here during the Listuguj 1981 raid. If you’re interested in speaking about your experience during the 1981 raid, the changes in our community since then and what fishing means to you, give us a call.

First Day of Indian Summer Games

The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government would like to congratulate our youth on their first day of the Indian Summer Games in Oromocto, NB.  Here are their results for swimming:

  • Lilly Rioux won 7 Gold;
  • Amelia Rioux won 6 Silver and 2 Gold;
  • Bryce Mitchell won 8 Gold;
  • Brayden Mitchell won 8 Gold;
  • Erika Metallic won 2 Bronze, 1 Silver and 1 Gold; and
  • Ayden Barnaby finished in 8th place.
