The Listuguj Youth and Family Center have followed the proper protocols and will continue to follow provincial guidelines to ensure the safety of youth and staff. The safety of your child(ren) is our priority. The building was closed to the public last week for an extensive deep cleaning including all surfaces and materials. We are certain that there are no positive cases here within our staff and building. We continue to encourage frequent hand washing throughout the day and in between our activities. From the start of camp we’ve modified our activities to follow the local and provincial guidelines and we will continue to strongly implement these guidelines.

Community Notice – Avoid Large Gatherings

Often at this time of year, an impromptu party (“Lake Fest”) is organized at Qospem (Indian Lake). This event is not sanctioned by the LMG and attendance is entirely at one’s own risk. We do not advise community members and residents to attend as a health and safety plan has not been submitted to the LMG nor approved by LMG.

Nonetheless, should you choose to attend, it is each person’s responsibility to adhere to public health recommendations, maintain proper social distancing and exercise good hygiene. Please be aware that the coronavirus is still very much a concern and that the risk of infection is real. The Listuguj Police Department will increase patrols in the area to provide assistance and direction. Finally, normal rules and conduct, especially in regards to drinking and driving, must be followed.

Community Support for New Brunswick Travel Registration

Starting tomorrow, August 1st, 2020, Listuguj residents travelling to New Brunswick for a day trip will be required to pre-register online at www.gnb.ca/TravelRegistration. This can also be accessed by calling toll free 1-833-948-2800 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Atlantic time). This is an easy process that only takes a few minutes.

Starting this afternoon, July 31st, the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government will be offering its services to community members and residents to facilitate this registration process. If you are experiencing difficulties with your registration and require assistance, please contact Christy Metallic, Administrative Support Clerk, at 418-788-2136.

These services will be offered Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you need to travel to New Brunswick during the weekend, we ask that you please contact Christy Metallic during the week to pre-register.

Chief Darcy Responds to Mini Bubble

The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government is encouraged with the outcome of discussions held between Premier Blaine Higgs and Chief Darcy Gray. Effective August 1, 2020, Listuguj community members and residents will once again be able to reunite with their families, access affordable food options, and access our traditional and ancestral lands.

“Regaining access is a positive first step. I’m happy with the outcome of the discussions held between myself, the Premier and his office over the course of the past few weeks. I’m optimistic that moving forward our governments will continue to work collaboratively on issues that adversely impact Listugujewaq, including access to our traditional and ancestral lands,” says Chief Darcy Gray.

From the outset, our government has been committed to doing things differently. Communications, relationship building and open dialogue is our foundation. We look forward to working collaboratively with the rest of the region, and are encouraged by the dialogue and efforts already happening to ensure a safe transition for our students attending Sugarloaf Senior High School in the Fall.

LETE Sneaker and School Supplies Notice

2020-2021 Sneaker and School Supplies
Reimbursement Program

 

The Listuguj Education Directorate Sneaker and School Supplies Reimbursement Program will begin on Tuesday, August 4th and will end on Wednesday, September 30, 2020.

Because of Covid 19 and the restrictions put in place, we will be not issuing vouchers, instead reimbursements will be made for purchases. AGS students will be reimbursed for sneakers only. Students in Provincial schools will be reimbursed for both.

The criteria for eligible students remain the same. Students must be enrolled in elementary or secondary schools full time, reside in Listuguj and be listed on the schools Confirmation of Enrollment (Nominal Roll). Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) requires that all students’ files include an updated report card and if required, an updated valid ID (medicare, birth certificate, status card or drivers license). Students attending Provincial schools who have not provided report cards or updated ID’s are still required do so.

The Reimbursement form can be found on the LMG website here and at the Education Complex. You can scan and email your receipts to charlene.ritchie@listuguj.ca. Should you prefer to bring in your receipts, call the front desk to make an appointment.

Once the required receipts and documents are received, cheques will be issued and mailed. Take note that we reserve the right to disallow items that are not considered as school supplies. The chart below shows the maximum amount that will be reimbursed based on child’s grade.

AMENDMENTS:
These procedures shall be reviewed annually and may be amended from time to time.
The amendments shall be approved by the Director of Education.

Telus Donates Tablets to Reconnect Patients with their Families

We would like to thank Telus for their generous donation of tablets and SIM cards.  The direction that we will be taking in utilizing the tablets will be for our elderly patients who are hospitalized in Campbellton and Maria and not able to connect with family as a result of hospital restrictions.  Family connection is so important for First Nations communities. The tablets will bring much comfort to patients and families during these difficult times.

Care Packages – Elders Living in Matapédia

The Adult and Elderly Care Coordinator visited our older community members who now reside in Matapédia to bring them care packages. Everyone says hello to Listuguj and they appreciate the thoughtful gift.

The packages included handmade masks, pouches of tobacco as well as Wellness cards from the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Health and Social Services Commission.

Important Community Notice

The LMG is taking precautionary measures to ensure the ongoing safety of our staff and clients. All LMG buildings will be closed to visitors until Monday, August 3, 2020. Please note that this will affect the scheduled activities with the Listuguj Youth and Family Centre, including the summer camp due to a reported case in Carleton-sur-mer. At this point in time, there has been no reported cases in Listuguj but those individuals who have been to Carleton are recommended to seek testing. See news article below for more details.

Community Notice – Wear a Mask

Please note that community members and residents accessing programs and services within LMG buildings must wear a mask. This new measure will be in effect until further notice.

Care Packages – Elders Living in Campbellton

The Adult and Elderly Care Coordinator went over today to bring packages to our older community members who now reside in Campbellton. Please know that all Listugujewaq are thinking of you. Listuguj has community members who live at Danielle Foyer, Foyer Charest and Manoir de la Vallée.

The packages included handmade masks, pouches of tobacco as well as Wellness cards from the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Health and Social Services Commission. The 60 cards are divided into four themes that allow you to reflect on the spheres of the medicine wheel: Emotional, Mental, Physical and Spiritual.
