Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government Approves Financial Administration Law
October 15th, 2018, Listuguj, QC – Listuguj Chief and Council, with continued commitment to improving governance and financial practices, approved the Listuguj Financial Administration Law. Working with the First Nations Financial Management Board (FNFMB), the LMG will work towards full implementation of the law, including reviewing policies, procedures and practices to improve accountability to the community. This law replaces the Financial Administration By-Law, allowing us to take further control over our own finances and strengthen our commitment to transparency and improving financial management.
Under this Law, the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government, should the LMG chose to do so, will be able to apply for 10-year grant funding from Indigenous Services Canada and allows for more borrowing options through the First Nations Finance Authority.
“We believe that through this commitment to implement improved financial practices and reporting to community that it will strengthen community members’ confidence in the LMG, and the many community driven initiatives we have under way. No doubt there’s a long way to go but we are certainly on our way,” said Chief Darcy Gray.
