On October 29, 2012, the LMG signed an Order in Council fully supporting the Alaqsite’w Gitpu School (AGS) as the sole educational provider for students in Nursery to Grade 8 unless an established and comprehensive program or curricula not currently offered at the AGS is offered at a local/provincial school (such as total French delivery).
The AGS Student Transfer Committee meets with parents once a year to determine whether a transfer to another provincial school will be in the best interest of the student. The deadline for student application is June 15th and the meeting with the committee is held the first week in August.
The application forms are at the AGS. For more information contact Jeff Grass at 418.788.3100.
Listuguj Community Social Services will temporarily relocate their offices to the band office for the next one to two weeks.
We are sorry for the inconvenience and if you have any questions please contact the Listuguj Band Office at 418-788-2136
The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government would like to advise the General Public that there has been and several reports of residential water and sewer lines freezing through the Community over a period of 3 to 4 weeks due to the environment and fluctuation of temperatures.
Rest assured that the Public Works Department is doing everything possible to address this issue.
To avoid this, we are recommending to keep a constant slight flow of water in your home only if you will be away for an extended period of time.
Should you notice a decrease in water pressure at any time please contact the Capital Directorate at the Natural Resource Building 418-788-3022 during regular business hours or the Listuguj Police Department 418-788-2003 in the evening/weekends.
The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government recently sent an open letter to Stephen Harper regarding it’s issues with Bill C-51. Below is a link to the official letter that was sent.
Having a loved one battling addiction is difficult to witness whether you are a grandmother, mother, father, brother or sister. We often feel powerless and don’t know what to do to get through to those closest to us. It is difficult to see those we love self-destruct and as loving family members we only want the best for our loved ones. Getting together, working together and being together can make a world of difference for everyone involved in the battle of addiction.
At Walgwan Centre we realize that we all have to work together to make a difference in not only working closely with the person battling the addiction but with the family as well. It is a very important component in our program and emphasis is put on the family aspect throughout the youth’s treatment and aftercare plan. We work closely with the referral source and other identified agencies and significant family members in strengthening and/or re-establishing a cohesive family dynamics for all those involved.

The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government would like to advise the General Public to refrain from flushing disposable wipes which include the cottonelle wipes, rags, and any other fabric type product in your toilet.
These products do not break down in the system and as a result it will clog up your sanitary/wastewater pipes, causing unpleasant sewer backups in your residence.
This type of damage is rarely covered by the insurance companies, and these actions also cause serious malfunctions in the Sewage Lift Stations consequently creating a significant expense to the Homeowner and the LMG.
Your cooperation on this potentially serious issue would be greatly appreciated.

COMMUNITY RELEASE
All NEW Listuguj members must register by April 30, 2015 to receive Settlement Funds
March 13, 2015 (Listuguj, Gespe’gewa’gi) –All NEW Listuguj members have until April 30, 2015 to register and ensure their name is on the Listuguj band list in order to receive a per capita distribution from the Settlement Agreement. This does not apply if you are already a registered member.
As ratified by community members, $60 million from the Settlement Agreement will be distributed to all Listuguj members who are alive as of the “Effective Date”. The “Effective Date” is the date that Canada signs the Agreement. LMG has been assured that Canada will sign the Agreement in early April. LMG will provide a grace period of several weeks and a cut-off date of April 30, 2015 to finalize and confirm membership registration. LMG will calculate the per capita distribution based on the number of members on the band list on April 30, 2015.
LMG wants to ensure all new members are registered. This can include babies who are born up to or on the “Effective Date” but who are not yet registered. It can also include anyone currently registering with Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC).
Please note the following important details regarding member registration as it relates to the Settlement Agreement per capita distribution:
Please note that anyone with an application for membership that is still pending from AANDC after April 30, 2015 will not be eligible for the per capita distribution.
LMG will be contacting AANDC to explain the situation regarding Listuguj membership, the per capita distribution and the cut-off date of April 30, 2015. LMG will urge AANDC to make Listuguj membership registrations a priority.
If you are having difficulty getting your Listuguj membership confirmed, please contact Gino Clement at the LMG office.
For more information on the per capita distribution, please contact:
