Severe Weather Forecast to Our Region
Here is the Government Operations Centre (GOC) briefing on the weather conditions that are forecast for the next few days.
Listuguj, Gesgapegiag, Gespeg, Ekuanitshit, Nutashkuan, Unamen Shipu, Pakua Shipi : A system will affect the eastern part of the province on Saturday and Sunday. Up to 20 to 30 cm of snow in less than 24 hours could be received on the Gaspé Peninsula, the Lower St. Lawrence and the North Shore and up to 40 cm on the Lower North Shore. Winds will increase during the night from Saturday to Sunday and will be at their strongest on Sunday. Widespread gusts of 70 km/h and up to 100 km/h for the northern Gaspé and Blanc-Sablon will affect these areas. The winds accompanying this significant snowfall will create widespread zero visibility conditions, which may last up to 12 hours. The tip of the Gaspé Peninsula and the Lower North Shore could receive freezing rain. Heavy snow could cause power outages, weak structure collapses, and road closures.
Pedestrian traffic must be kept to a minimum as heavy equipment will be busy keeping roads open, traffic and parking of cars in parking lots should be kept to a minimum, bring pets indoors, and to keep vigilance on elders and last but not least, preparation for power outrages.
