Summary of Function:

The External Buildings Operations & Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring a safe, clean and well-maintained environment for students, staff and visitors, while overseeing the day-to-day maintenance of all external building operations. This includes the Education Complex, Base Camp, Outdoor Education Building, and Alaqsite’w Gitpu School.

This role ensures that our external assets, including the facades, roofs, grounds, and infrastructure are maintained to the highest standards of safety, compliance, and operational efficiency. The External Buildings Operations & Maintenance Technician will report to the Building and Transportation Manager.

Job Duties:

• Develop and realize daily, weekly, or monthly checklists of prescheduled building and equipment maintenance procedures.
• Address external building maintenance (siding, roofing, lighting, etc.).
• Clean and maintain entrances, walkways and other areas, working as a member of crew.
• Perform landscaping and ground maintenance for all LED buildings, including mowing lawns, brush cutting, trimming trees and hedges, and maintaining outdoor areas to ensure a safe, clean, and well-kept environment.
• Inspect, document, and communicate issues related to all playground equipment; identify safety concerns, coordinate maintenance requirements, and perform or arrange necessary repairs.
• Ensure upkeep of outdoor night lights, security lights and cameras, parking lots at the Education Buildings.
• Support the safe and efficient management of traffic flow, parking, and site access during events and emergency situations at AGS, Base Camp, and the Education Complex, ensuring emergency vehicle and school bus access is maintained at all times.
• Other related duties.

Requirements:

• Highschool diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of related experience.
• Possess a Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
• An apprenticeship certificate in one or more of the trades.
• Ability to work independently and perform assigned tasks within a team environment.
• Demonstrates pride in workmanship.
• Experience working in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety, WHMIS and other relevant legislation.
• Ability to pass a Criminal Background Check/Vulnerable Sector Check.
