Fab Lab Onaki Recruiting Indigenous Youth
The First Peoples Innovation Center are currently recruiting indigenous peoples for their project called Fab Lab Onaki.
The First Peoples Innovation Center has developed the first Indigenous Fab Lab in Canada that offers a five-month paid training in Gatineau funded by Employment and Social Development Canada. The participants receive an allowance during the training and the internship.
The Fab Lab is considered by some to be a “third industrial Revolution” with its 3D printer, laser cutting and digital milling machine. It allows everyone to innovate, create, produce, distribute, repair and recycle.
The ONAKI Fab Lab is open to Indigenous youth (First Nations, Metis and Inuit) between 16-30 years old. The ONAKI Fab lab has different tools from the more traditional (carpentry, beading, sewing) to the most modern ones (laser cutting, 3D printers, etc.)
*This training is open to all Indigenous peoples of Quebec, however client must have their own lodging arranged during the duration of the program*

Indigenous Gender and Wellness – Idea Fair and Learning Circle Travel Award
The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) will be launching Travel Awards to bring interested First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples (aged 18 and older), researchers, organizations, Indigenous community members, and other allies of Indigenous Peoples to attend an Idea Fair and Learning Circle on “Indigenous Gender and Wellness”.
Do you have an idea or potential project related to gender that could improve wellness in your community?
If so, this initiative is for you! They are especially interested in projects related to Indigenous youth.
The Idea Fair and Learning Circle is the first step in a larger initiative that will provide funding for the development and implementation of community-led projects on the topic of Indigenous gender and wellness.
The Idea Fair and Learning Circle will be held on June 18-20, 2019 in Montreal, located on the traditional unceded territory of the Kanien;keha:ka (Mohawk) people.
They are offering travel awards of up to $5,000 each to help cover the costs of attending. You can learn more and apply for a travel award on the CIHR website at http://www.indigenousgender.ca. The deadline to submit an application is November 8, 2018.

Listuguj Comes to Understanding with Restigouche Camp Owners Association
August 6, 2018 (Listuguj, Quebec) – Representatives from the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government and other First Nations met with members of the Restigouche Camp Owner Association and the city of Campbellton at the Restigouche River Experience Centre.
Throughout the day the discussion was consumed with the idea of “changing the narrative”. This was agreed upon by everyone in attendance that the narrative that is described when speaking about the resources within traditional Mi’gmaq territory should include the Mi’gmaq in all relevant representation.
It was agreed upon to evaluate and review the current history that is being displayed at the Centre to include both the history of multiple generations of guides and anglers along with the history of the Mi’gmaq and Gespe’gewa’gi.
Acknowledging the darkness in our collective history is the first step to reconciliation and to ensure that history does not repeat itself.
“The discussion was a very positive one and we mutually agreed to acknowledge all aspects of our collective history and work on the best way to move forward together”, said Chief Darcy Gray.
Throughout the afternoon a great collaboration of ideas took place and there was a firm commitment to improve the current representation of the Mi’gmaq at the Restigouche River Experience Centre. In order to properly do this there will be an advisory committee put together to address this important task.
“I would like to express how delighted I am to have done this for the second consecutive year, and there have been some very concrete and substantial ideas that have been recommended and discussed”, said Edgar Cullman Chair of the Restigouche Camp Owners Association.

Boil Water Advisory
ATTENTION: Residents of Listuguj
As of Monday, August 6th, 2018, the community water supply is not safe to drink. People using the community water must boil their water first.
Water must be brought to a full boil for at least one full minute if you are going to use it for any of the following: drinking, cooking, making juice drinks or infant formula. However, you can continue to use regular tap water for hand washing, laundry and washing dishes.
Boil your water until official notice that this is no longer required.

Cleaning of JC Van Horne Bridge
The JC Van Horne Bridge will be cleaned next week by sub-contractor D&D Associates Ltd.
- TOP PART OF BRIDGE; Starting Monday, July 16, 2018 from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am from Monday to Friday. After the top of bridge is completed, contractor will undertake cleaning under the bridge.
- UNDER THE BRIDGE; Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm or a little later. (No anticipated traffic impacts)
