Summary of Function:

To assist families, develop parenting skills, access resources in the community and raise healthier families in an environment of safety, growth, and learning.  The ability to provide follow-up and mentorship to families and individuals as well as the ability to demonstrate a wide variety of capacities such as case management and service delivery based on the prevention model and community-based approach, mission and protocols herein.

Job Duties:

  • Plan and prepare materials to collaborate, teach, and demonstrate through role modeling with parents on matters of child development.
  • Provide information to expectant and new parents on pregnancy and healthy child development.
  • Provide case consultation and in-service training, as deemed appropriate.
  • Conduct face-to-face meetings with clients for the development of individual service plans and required follow-up.
  • Make referrals to other resources and agencies as needed.
  • Liaison to community agencies and resources within Listuguj and surrounding areas.
  • Provide support with “at risk” or problem cases.
  • Provide on-going assistance to program staff and collaboration with community resources.
  • Participating in capacity building training identified thereby enhancing service deliverables.
  • Review and approve psychosocial assessments, treatment plan, and family service delivery plans.
  • Teach behavior management and living skills.
  • Provide support for clientele to ensure appointments are met and follow-ups are maintained.
  • Ensure that reports, file updates, statistics and individual service plans are maintained.

Requirements:

  • Education and/or Experience: College Degree in Early Childhood Education, related degree, or equivalent experience in related field.
  • Experience as a parent and/or caregiver is an asset.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must have both social and professional experience in First Nations communities and preferably be able to communicate in the Mi’gmaq Language, or willing to learn.
  • Must have knowledge and be able to apply traditional/cultural practices such as Healing Circles and Smudging.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Must be able to use Office 360 programs.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
