Summary of Function:

The Alaqsite’w Gitpu School (AGS) is seeking a dynamic and passionate Core French Teacher to join our dedicated team of educators. Under the supervision of the AGS Principal, the Core French Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging French language instruction that meets the outcomes, standards and objectives that are set forth by the Listuguj Education Directorate, while fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Job Duties:

  • Maintain a professional image and demeanor with all employees, management, executives and visitors at all times.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver Core French lessons to students at AGS.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Promote active listening, speaking, reading, and writing in French through interactive and communicative teaching methods.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress regularly and provide timely feedback to students and parents.
  • Maintain accurate records of student achievement and attendance.
  • Working in collaboration with colleagues such as Educational Assistants, Intervention Workers, Behavior Interventionists, etc., to support student learning and cross-curricular activities.
  • Participate in staff meetings, school events, and ongoing professional development.
  • Act in the capacity of a positive role model for all students.
  • Motivate students in regard to their academics.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education and/or Provincial Teaching Certification.
  • Must Submit a Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in the French language.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team or professional learning communities and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Excellent classroom management techniques that establish routines and provide structure in a classroom setting.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of First Nation needs, issues, concerns and aspirations.
