Call Out for Training – Maternal Child Health & Immunization Program

The Listuguj Community Health Services: Maternal Child Health & Immunization program is currently holding a call out to community members for interest in training through Supportons-Lait this fall. The organization Supportons-Lait offers a dedicated breastfeeding godmother program. This program is aimed to assist new and expecting families in the community. Every godmother is a mother who has successfully breastfed her own child for at least 6 months and wants to volunteer her time to support other families.
Godmothers provide encouraging active listening, help navigate daily challenges (like positioning, proper latching, or managing pain), and assist with everything from preparation to weaning. If a complex medical issue arises, they will seamlessly refer parents to clinical resources or certified lactation consultants
To ensure high-quality care, volunteers complete a mandatory 14-hour basic training course covering technical aspects of breastfeeding, troubleshooting common problems, and the fundamentals of compassionate, supportive communication
There will be a training in English offered this fall.
It is necessary to own and operate a vehicle.
During the training, the Breastfeeding godmothers learn the breastfeeding basics, about problems that can occur, and the principles of the aid relationship. Other training activities and resourcing activities, which include private group discussions, are also offered. The trainings and the private group discussions keep the knowledge of the coaches up-to-date and give them a chance to exchange ideas and discuss among themselves. During the exchanges and discussions, the mother’s confidentiality is always maintained. If a mother’s question surpasses the knowledge of a breastfeeding coach, the coach will get the right answers by either talking to someone or by consulting pertinent documentation.
