Community Reminder – Moratorium on the Cannabis Retail Licenses in Listuguj

The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government (LMG) continues to develop a regulatory regime governing the sale of cannabis in Listuguj. This work is undertaken to advance the community’s inherent right to self-government and self-determination, using all available legal tools at the federal and provincial levels. In doing so, the LMG seeks to foster economic development within Listuguj while safeguarding the health and safety of its members.

On September 18, 2024, the LMG adopted a resolution establishing a moratorium on the licensing of cannabis retail establishments in Listuguj (OIC #2916). This moratorium was subsequently extended on May 27, 2025 (OIC #2978) and further amended on March 16, 2026 (OIC #3036).

The community is advised that the moratorium remains in effect. That means no new cannabis retail licenses are being issued at this time, and the expansion, relocation, or modification of any existing cannabis retail establishment is not permitted.

The LMG will continue to keep the community informed as this regulatory process advances.
