Accountable to:      Post Office Supervisor

Summary of Function:

The Post Office Clerk will be responsible for receiving, sorting, and the distribution of

mail items. The Post Office Clerk is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate

pick-up and delivery of mail and packages.

 

Job Duties:

  • Receive, sort, sequence and batch mail items
  • Answer questions about office hours and when items are picked up to be mailed.
  • Sell postage and books of stamps.
  • Affix stamps to packages.
  • Inform customers about postage rates.
  • Weighs parcels and letters on scale and computes mailing cost based on weight and destination.
  • Check packages for proper postage and addresses.
  • Complete forms regarding changes of address, theft, or loss of mail, for special services such as registered or priority mail.
  • Hand-stamp mail.
  • Fill out and process money orders.
  • Keep a clean, safe and organized work area.
  • Adherent to LMG policies, procedures and safety regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties.

 

Requirements:

  • Experience in postal setting or in public service is considered an asset.
  • Bilingual is considered an asset.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Any combination of education and experience in related field is an asset.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently.
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing.
  • Ability to lift mail items weighing up to 22.7 kilograms (50lbs).
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check.
