Accountable to: Economic Development Manager

Summary of Function:
The Economic Development Officer (EDO) reports to the General Manager of Economic Development and plays a key role in advancing economic initiatives within the community. The EDO supports and leads project coordination, community engagement, business development, and funding programs, while identifying and pursuing opportunities that strengthen local businesses, create employment, and support economic growth.

Job Duties:
• Act as a liaison between local organizations, businesses, community members, and
representatives of government, industry, and other Indigenous communities on matters related to
economic development, tourism and other areas as deemed necessary
• Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Economic Development Strategic
Action Plan
• Represent the community at economic conferences at the local, regional and national levels
• Lead and support the planning, coordination, and implementation of economic development
projects (e.g. food sovereignty, tourism, commercial activities)
• Facilitate and support community engagement sessions, workshops, and consultations to gather
input and feedback
• Provide guidance and support to community members interested in starting or expanding
businesses, including assistance with business plans and funding applications.
• Assist in the administration and management of the Local Economic Development Grant (small
business grant)
• Assist with the administration of grants and funding agreements, including monitoring, reporting,
and compliance requirements
• Support tourism development initiatives, including planning, promotion, and partner engagement
• Prepare reports, briefing notes, and updates for management and Chief and Council
• Support communications efforts, including development of promotional materials and community
updates
• Support procurement processes, including Request for Proposals (RFPs) and project coordination
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required

Requirements:
• Respect for Indigenous culture and willingness to learn
• High level sensitivity to issues faced by Indigenous people
• College or University degree in Business, or a related field
• Working experience in Economic Development, marketing, and public relations; preference will be
given to applicants with 3 or more years of relevant experience
• Good knowledge, preferably gained through related experience, of community economic
development activities, including marketing, business development and promotion
• Ability to network and work effectively with Nation Leaders, communities, economic development
professionals and all levels of government
• The EDO must have the ability to: make good strategic decisions, demonstrate strong civic and
community leadership, build relationships with economic development partners, the business
community, and area municipalities.
• Effective at public speaking and making presentations
• Self-directed and able to work without supervision
• Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas
• Must possess professional etiquette when receiving phone inquiries and direct calls in an efficient
and professional manner
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
