Purpose of the Position:

The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Development Centre (LMDC) is seeking a Support Counselor to work collaboratively with the counselling team and community partners to support participants in employability and training programs. The position acts as a key contact to ensure documentation is completed, information flows efficiently, and participant progress is monitored and communicated.

Job Duties:

    • The Support Counselor plays a key role in helping clients overcome barriers to employment and education by providing individualized guidance, connecting them with training and job opportunities, and offering ongoing support to achieve their goals.
    • Provide regular follow-up, guidance, and support to participants
    • Encourage attendance and engagement in training programsIdentify barriers and help develop practical solutions
    • Support participant integration through visits to schools and workplaces
    • Build relationships and collaborate with community partners
    • Connect participants to appropriate support services and resources
    • Monitor progress with achieving action plan goals
    • Maintain accurate, confidential participant records (paper and electronic systems)
    • Prepare reports, summaries, and required documentation
    • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

Requirements:

  • Understanding of Mi’gmaq/First Nation culture and community realities
  • Post-secondary education in a related field2 to 3 years experience in counseling, case management, or employment services
  • Experience supporting individuals facing barriers to employment or education
  • Ability to support, motivate, and build rapport with participants
  • Ability to collaborate with employers, educators, and community partners
  • Experience maintaining confidential records and preparing reports
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and database management systems
  • Team-oriented with professionalism and empathy
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel
  • Asset: Workshop facilitation experience
  • Candidate must be able to provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
