Summary of Function:

The School Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and reliable transportation of students to and from school along established routes and designated stops. The incumbent may also transport students and school staff to field trips, sporting events, and other school-related activities. The position requires attentive and responsible driving, adherence to traffic and weather conditions, completion of daily vehicle safety inspections, and maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all passengers. The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining accurate transportation records and communicating professionally with students, parents/guardians, school staff, co-workers, and members of the public.

Job Duties:

• Safely transport students to and from school each day during the school year, following established routes and designated stops.
• Conduct daily pre-trip and vehicle safety inspections to ensure the bus is safe and operational.
• Maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful environment for all passengers while enforcing established rules of conduct.
• Remain alert to traffic, road, and weather conditions and respond appropriately to changing circumstances or emergencies.
• Communicate and interact with students, parents/guardians, school staff, co-workers, and members of the public in a courteous, respectful, and professional manner.
• Maintain accurate records of fuel usage, kilometers driven, and the number of students transported, as required.
• Report vehicle maintenance concerns, safety issues, incidents, or other relevant matters to the appropriate supervisor.
• Transport students and school staff to special events, including field trips, sporting events, and other school-related activities, as required.
• Perform other related duties and assignments as required.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Must be at least 21 years of age to hold a School Bus Driver’s License in Quebec.
• Minimum of two (2) years of driving experience as per provincial regulations.
• Hold a valid, non-probationary Quebec Driver’s License and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
• Hold a valid Class 2 Quebec Driver’s License.
• Hold a valid Quebec Certificate of Competence to operate a bus or minibus used for the transportation of school children, including:
  • Completion of the required 15-hour initial training; and
  • Completion of six (6) hours of refresher training every three (3) years thereafter.
• Fluent in English, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, school staff, and the public.
• Knowledge of applicable Highway and School Bus Regulations.
• Ability to successfully complete a Ministry-prescribed Medical Examination.
• Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen is required.
• Provide a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
