Summary of Function:
The Post Office Clerk will be responsible for receiving, sorting, and the distribution of
mail items. The Post Office Clerk is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate
pick-up and delivery of mail and packages.
Job Duties:
- Receive, sort, sequence and batch mail items
- Answer questions about office hours and when items are picked up to be mailed.
- Sell postage and books of stamps.
- Affix stamps to packages.
- Inform customers about postage rates.
- Weighs parcels and letters on scale and computes mailing cost based on weight and destination.
- Check packages for proper postage and addresses.
- Complete forms regarding changes of address, theft, or loss of mail, for special services such as registered or priority mail.
- Hand-stamp mail.
- Fill out and process money orders.
- Keep a clean, safe and organized work area.
- Adhere to LMG policies, procedures and safety regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Performs other related duties.
Requirements:
- Experience in Postal setting or in public service considered an asset
- Bilingual considered an asset
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Any combination of education and experience in related field is an asset.
- Highly motivated and able to work independently.
- Ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing
- Ability to lift mail items weighing up to 22.7 kilograms (50lbs)
- Must be able to pass a criminal record check
