Summary of Function:
Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government requires a Community Safety Officer (LPD) who will be responsible for patrolling and monitoring premises of the community playgrounds, new builds, including apartments, homes and storage facilities. The incumbent will be required to work evening shifts and weekends as after typical work hours. He/she is responsible for patrolling assigned areas to guard against theft, vandalism, and or unauthorized persons. The incumbent will be supervised by the Chief of Police.
Job Duties:
- Secures premises by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; permitting entry.
- Obtains help by notifying the LPD when needed.
- Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities; informing violators of policy and procedures; reporting trespassers or other incidents to the LPD.
- Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities in a logbook; and collaborating with LMG, administration and the LPD.
- Maintains environment by monitoring and ensuring sites are free from hazardous and dangerous paraphernalia and safe disposal and documentation.
- Maintains organization’s stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements.
- Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must be willing to work flexible work hours.
- Attention to detail in all areas of work.
- First-aid and CPR certification would be an asset.
- Must be able to complete required paperwork to report abnormalities or incidents.
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Strong conflict management skills.
- Able to work well under pressure and provide good customer care.
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
- Must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license with the ability to successfully complete requirements for operation of a motor vehicle as per LMG policy.
- Criminal Records/Vulnerable Records Check Required
- Pre-employment drug screening required.
