Summary of Function:

The Aboriginal Summer Student Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising the Aboriginal Summer Student Program. This role ensures a culturally safe and engaging experience for Indigenous youth, supporting their personal and professional development through mentorship, training, and community involvement.

Job Duties:

  • Coordinate the recruitment, onboarding, and placement of Aboriginal summer students.
  • Act as the primary liaison between students, host departments, and community partners.
  • Develop and facilitate orientation sessions and workshops with an emphasis on cultural identity, career development, and life skills.
  • Monitor and support students throughout the program, providing mentorship and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on program outcomes and student evaluations.
  • Promote a respectful and inclusive environment rooted in Indigenous values and teachings.
  • Collaborate with internal staff to ensure alignment with organizational goals and Indigenous engagement strategies.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Human Resources, Education, or a related field (or equivalent combination of experience and education).
  • Lived experience and/or strong knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and issues.
  • Experience working with Indigenous youth in a supportive or mentorship role.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector check is required.
  • Organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Must be a social assistance recipient.
