Summary of Function:

The Listuguj Education Directorate is seeking to employ an energetic, self-motivated person as the Listuguj Alternative Pathways to Learning Teacher (LAPL). The LAPL Teacher will work under the direct supervision of the Listuguj Enhancement Manager – as part of the Enhancement team. The LAPL Teacher will be responsible for implementing culturally and academically responsive curriculum practices to high school students located the Listuguj Education Directorate building.

Job Duties:

• Provide instructional support to students through various strategies aimed at assisting students in the Listuguj Personal Learning Environment.
• Teachers focus primary on students’ social-emotional need, attendance, and daily engagement
• Implementation of Tier 1 PSIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) practices aligned with the school-wide expectations and code of conduct
• Monitor student attendance and conduct bi-weekly check-ins to assess progress and update goals
• Address students’ complex needs, building strong relationships, and collaborating with school-based partners and district support staff to coordinate effective supports
• The Teacher will provide Tier 2 small group or individualized support for student learning
• Collaborate with Virtual teachers and the school based ESST- to determine and deliver the appropriate support
• Responsible for addressing student needs at school-based ESST meetings
• The Teacher will build and maintain partnerships with local training, labour, community organizations to create real-world learning opportunities for students
• Ensure subject matter is relevant to students’ level of learning and incorporates cultural content where appropriate.
• Assist and collaborate with Listuguj Resource Teacher and Campbellton APL Teacher
• Evaluate students’ progress and complete progress report
• Assist First Nation Resource Educator in identifying individual student difficulties and possible solutions and/or supports.
• Provide educational experiences in the classroom environment and by incorporating land-based learning.
• Assist students in achieving academic outcomes.
• Supervise, observe, and monitor students’ progress.
• Seek and organize culturally relevant workshops and/or learning opportunities to APL students by inviting F.N. specialists, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, etc., to enhance cultural competencies
• Demonstrate effective communication skills.
• Provide a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment adhering to LMG policy, Policy 701 and Policy 703.
• Demonstrate responsible behavior towards attendance and work schedule.
• Maintain professionalism and ensure confidentiality in all matters concerning students.
• Serve as a positive role model for First Nation students.
• Other related responsibilities may be assigned from time to time for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

Requirements:

• Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.
• Minimum five (5) years of relevant teaching experience.
• Must provide a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Knowledge of First Nation culture and community.
• Understanding of High School subject areas.
