Summary of Function:
The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government is seeking to employ an energetic, collaborative, self-motivated person to work as an additional AGS Methods and Resource Teacher. Under the supervision of Special Education Coordinator, the M&R Teacher is responsible for the support of Individualized Education Plans (IEP).
Job Duties:
- Carries out classroom observations as required by the classroom teacher, student services teams, or AGS administration.
- Works with the classroom teacher and the Methods and Resource Coordinator to administer and interpret standardized and/or informal academic tests needed to establish appropriate instructional programs or placement.
- Dependent on the situation, reports the results of academic or standardized testing to the teacher, Methods and Resource Coordinator or Special Education team, as required.
- Participates in the Special Education referral and assessment process as a permanent member of the Special Education Team
- Assists teachers in adapting and implementing regular programs and instructional procedures to meet student’s needs and in the identification of any additional resources required to meet individual student’s needs and scheduling various interventions required to attain student achievement goals.
- Assists teachers in conducting school-wide achievement testing, and in interpreting the results.
- Works with the teacher to evaluate the interventions that have been undertaken, and to revise as needed.
- Assists teachers in determining evaluation procedures including tests, work samples, observations, etc. for students who are on an IEP.
- As a member of the Special Education Team, assists the classroom teacher in the formulation of IEP’s for specific special needs students.
- Together with the Methods and Resource Coordinator, assists teachers in planning information for parents on the IEP program and the individual progress of each special needs student.
- Provides direct instructional assistance to special needs students based on the recommendations of their IEPs.
- Participates with the Special Education Team and the classroom teacher in planning and follow-up IEP meetings.
- Collaborates with the student services in establishing and implementing behavioral management programs.
Requirements:
- Bachelor Degree in Education from a recognized institution.
- Certificate in Special Education or a related field of specialization.
- Valid Teaching License.
- Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience, including at least two (2) years supporting and educating children with special needs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of inclusive education practices and individualized learning strategies.
- Must provide a Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check.
- In accordance with LMG Policy, priority consideration will be given first to qualified Listuguj Mi’gmaq applicants, followed by qualified applicants from other First Nation communities, and then other qualified candidates.
