New Fishing Area 21B-West Survey

The Natural Resources Directorate of the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government is currently developing a Lobster Fishing Plan for a new fishing Area.

The objectives of this fishing plan are to:

-Ensure a lobster fishery by community Members is beneficial and done safely, while respecting the Lobster and the needs of future generations.

-Support community sustenance needs by providing additional access to lobster.

-Balance community rights with responsibilities to the territory, lobster, and each other.

-Exercise Community authority under Listuguj Lobster Law.

-Encourage a co-operative approach to governance and management approach by

working with Treaty partners (Canada via Fisheries and Oceans Canada) to respect Lobster and keep community members safe.
