Summary of Function:

Under the direct supervision of the Child and Family Service Supervisor, the Youth Protection Delegate will be responsible for ensuring the adequate application of Youth Protection Act, Section 33, specifically providing aid counsel and assistance to children and their family and, evaluation of signalments as assigned under Section 32.

Job Duties:

  • Interview clients for Court reports; history and background information. Also, interview any other individual involved with the case or that can provide information about the client (school, other primary workers, family members);
  • Prepare and maintain evolution notes, progress reports and court reports and any other reports requested by the Supervisor when required and appear in a youth court when required.
  • Plan and make necessary interventions with his/her authority.
  • Present themselves appropriately at the court sessions and any recommended legal proceedings when deemed necessary or when the youth court requires his/her presence.
  • Work with community resources as community-based approaches are priority.
  • Organize transportation for the youth on the Court dates they need to appear.
  • Management of active files.
  • Participate in team meetings.
  • Participate in individual meetings with supervisor regarding case management.
  • Take charge of a child’s situation when the security or development is compromised (Article 33).
  • Plan and carry out interviews as required in the context of his/her mandate.
  • Provide counselling and therapy to assist clients in developing skills to deal with and resolve their social and personal concerns.
  • Apply, temporarily, immediate protective measures required by the child’s situation.
  • Authorize, in an emergency case, the provision of medical services and other care.
  • Evaluate signalements under the Youth Protection Act (Article 32), when required and prepare the evaluation and orientation report.
  • Propose the application of voluntary measures or seize the Court regarding the child’s situation.
  • Ensures application of emergency measures, if required.
  • Remains available for the provision of 24/7 hour on-call after hour emergency services as scheduled.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in an environment of sensitive material.

Requirements:

  • Must have a degree in Social Work or Criminology, equivalent or striving to achieve.
  • Social Workers/Criminologists must possess membership or remain eligible to apply with provincial association the Professional Order of Quebec.
  • Supervised practical experience is required.
  • Minimum 3 years of social work or related experience in a social service agency or health care setting with one of three years may be social work internship.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
