Summary of Function:

The Natural Resource Directorate (NRD) of the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government (LMG) is looking for a new Science Manager to lead the Science Unit for the purpose of advancing the departments vision for governing and managing our relationship with the natural territory. The individual will be responsible for the management and administration of the Science Unit at NRD.

Job Duties:

  • Manage budgets and expenses related to research activities.
  • Implement LMG Administration and Health and Safety policies; and develop and implement NRD policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Monitor and manage the performance of all Science Unit and Staff; including but not limited to Science Coordinator, Supervisors, Technicians, Laborers, Project Staff, Students, and Contractors.
  • Manage contracts related to outsourcing research needs (Academic Institutions, independent researchers, government institutions).
  • Monitor effectiveness of Science Activities and work with managers and staff to implement change.
  • Manage assets, Equipment, and Supplies (Proper use, Calibration, Maintenance, Repair, Replacement, Storage, Replacement, and Inventory).
  • Manage and Analyze Research data and prepare and present research reports.
  • Identify and secure contractual services related to research objectives.
  • Prepare monthly reports to executive management.
  • Participate in NRD Strategic Planning and Contribute toward Mi’gmaq Science Objectives.
  • Develop a departmental Operational Plan within NRD priorities and objectives.
  • Design Research Plans and Protocols and respective data sheets.
  • Secure services of Biologists or Technical Experts.

  • Bachelor’s degree in the fields of Natural Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Indigenous Studies, General Science, or other degree relevant to the position.
  • Experience working with Indigenous Knowledge and Communities considered an asset.
  • Management Training or Experience considered an asset.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Drivers License
