Purpose of the Position
In partnership with the Listuguj Community Social Services Department, the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Development Centre (LMDC) is seeking to employ a Job Supports Worker for the Pre-Employment Supports (PES) Program. This successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in realizing the PES program objectives and conducting outreach to Income Assistance clients with the goal to provide supports to assist them in reintegrating to training or employment.
Job Description
The Job Supports Worker plays a key role in helping clients receiving Income Assistance overcome barriers to employment and education. This position provides individualized guidance, connects clients to training and job opportunities, and offers ongoing support to help them achieve their personal and professional goals.
- Support clients in developing job readiness skills, employment strategies, and life skills.
- Provide one-on-one guidance and ongoing follow-up as clients work toward employment or educational goals.
- Collaborate with staff to assess barriers and create individualized action plans for counseling, training, or financial aid.
- Assist clients in pursuing educational opportunities that enhance employability and long-term self-sufficiency.
- Liaise with Income Assistance staff and LMDC Employment Counselors to coordinate client services and referrals.
- Maintain accurate client records and update the Pre-Employment Supports (PES) database for reporting.
- Help develop and maintain a pool of employer and training placement sponsors.
- Support job placements, including follow-ups, evaluations, and purchasing of employment supports (e.g., work attire, gear).
- Assist in planning and delivering workshops and new client programming in collaboration with the Social Services team.
- Identify training needs for LMDC and IA staff to strengthen program delivery.
- Integrate Mi’gmaq cultural values, teachings, and traditions into all aspects of service delivery.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Social Services, Employment Counselling, or a related field (or up to 2 years equivalent experience).
- Experience supporting clients in employment, training, or community development programs.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Communicate effectively and is an active listener.
- Proven ability to motivate and encourage clients in achieving their goals.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and comfortable learning new databases.
- Knowledge of employment barriers and strategies for overcoming them.
- Ability to work collaboratively with clients, staff, and community partners.
- Proficient in understanding Mi’gmaq/First Nation’s culture and community realities
Candidate must be able to provide clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
Regular travel (valid driver’s licence required)
