The full time LTC Administrator will play an integral role in overseeing the daily operations and organizing of our facility.  The ideal candidate must be competent and able to plan many kinds of operational activities.  They must be an excellent leader who can discover the most efficient ways to run our facility by ensuring the effective, efficient delivery of established standards within legislative and budgetary requirements.

Job Summary

 The Long-Term Care Administrator has the overall responsibility for the day-to-day management and operations of Waqatesg Long-Term Care Facility. Ensuring optimum standards of service, care, and value to our residents within budgetary constraints and in a manner that is consistent with Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government Mission and Values, along with applicable health and safety regulations.

The Long-Term Care Administrator is responsible to work closely with the Director of Health, and LMG Administration personnel to provide leadership, direction, and support to staff and volunteers, according to policy guidelines, provincial legislation, FNIHB/ISC directives, Accreditation Canada standards, as well as all legal contracts entered by the Waqatesg Long-Term Care Facility.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that the facility follows relevant legislation, regulations, codes, bylaws, policies and contracts
  • Ensures the delivery of quality resident care through a safe and healthy environment for residents and staff
  • Attracts, develops, and retains a highly engaged team of employees
  • Prepare and manage a monthly 24-hour staff work schedule
  • Organize professional training that is required for staff
  • Works within the facility’s operating budget, ensuring that all expenditures are within budget guidelines
  • Directs the maintenance of the building and grounds and routine maintenance within the policies of the LMG
  • Liaises and consults with the Director of Health, families/residents, government officials, company resources and professionals in relation to resident care needs and department activities
  • Assumes Operations responsibility for the facility


 Education and Experience required:

 Degree in Health, Business, Marketing and/or Social Services preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant management experience
  • Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience with a large multi-disciplinary staff
  • Solid understanding of business planning processes and the metrics of business
  • Solid understanding of effective Human Resource policies and procedures
  • Completion of the LTC Administration Leadership Management course or equivalent
  • Certified First Nations Health Manager an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in gerontology, health management supervision, budgeting, computer applications, labor relations and a thorough awareness of applicable legislation governing Long Term Care operations
  • Must demonstrate strong analytical thinking and decision making. Strong relationship management skills: capacity to think and act in a strategic prospective
  • Experience in risk management activities and demonstrate knowledge of continuous quality improvement processes
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communications skills with the ability to effectively supervise the activities of department managers and demonstrate good fiscal and leadership responsibility

 Additional qualifications include:

  • Understanding of Mi’gmaq and French languages an asset
  • Strong leadership skills to direct the work of the employees
  • Superb organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation
  • Customer-focused attitude, with emphasis on building and maintaining relationships with residents
  • Ability to generate creative solutions and new approaches to daily challenges
