Summary of Function:

Under the direction of the Police Chief, carries out investigations of a criminal nature and testifies in judicial proceedings relating to such investigative work; acts as a resource person for other personnel working in the Listuguj Police Dept. in respect of all matters of a criminal nature.

Job Duties:

  • Interviewing any persons who might have information relating to an occurrence; recording personal observations regarding the accuracy and veracity of statements furnished by witnesses
  • Developing and maintaining a group of informants who could prove useful in terms of providing crucial information regarding the nature and extent of criminal activities occurring within the Community
  • Conducting both physical and photographic surveillance assignments for the purpose of gathering information, evidence, etc.;
  • Acting as an undercover agent or cover person as required;
  • Collecting, securing and preserving evidence in accordance with established procedures;
  • Meeting with Crown attorneys, witnesses and victims of crime in order to be fully prepared to testify in Court proceedings;
  • Assisting other police agencies as may be required;
  • Enlisting whatever technical resources and outside expertise as may be required in order to conduct a thorough and proper investigation (i.e. photo surveillance, Technical Identification Services Unit);
  • Ensuring that files are completed and by maintaining statistical information relating to work in progress, solution rates and any other reports of a recurring or non-recurring nature as may be required

Requirements:

  • Completion of secondary school and a college diploma may be required or experience as a police officer
  • Good knowledge of the Criminal Code.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal skills in English and French, with a working knowledge of Mi’gmaq;
  • Demonstrated capacity for performing work with a high degree of professionalism
  • Possess good judgement;
  • Pre-employment drug screening required.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
