Summary of Function:

The role of Family Group Conference Support Worker is integral in vision-building. As a support worker, you become a crucial resource in crafting a plan that involves family members in the decision-making process, transitioning from a problem-focused approach to a solution-oriented one. This shift emphasizes viewing families not merely as problems but as valuable resources. It also entails moving from a reactive stance to a proactive one, from fault-finding to claiming responsibility, and from consultation to collaboration. The role encourages a shift from a professional-centered approach to one that involves everyone in the family. Instead of crisis management, the focus is on vision-building as a cohesive unit. This model aims to enhance family accountability by mobilizing the family system rather than relying solely on professional intervention.

  • Advocate for Family Empowerment: Advocate for the empowerment of families by promoting their active participation in decision-making processes, encouraging them to take ownership of their situations, and fostering a sense of responsibility and accountability.
  • Collaborate with Professionals: Collaborate with other professionals involved in the family’s case, such as social workers, counselors, and support services, to ensure coordinated and holistic support for the family.
  • Monitor and Evaluate Progress: Monitor the implementation of plans agreed upon during family conferences and evaluate their effectiveness in meeting the family’s goals and objectives. Provide ongoing support and guidance as needed to ensure the family’s continued progress and well-being.
