Job Description:
The Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi Secretariat (MMS) is seeking a highly skilled individual who can take on the important task of leading communications. The Director of Communications will manage and coordinate all aspects of communications while representing the three Mi’gmaq communities of Gesgapegiag, Gespeg and Listuguj on various files that affect the territory. Our ability to communicate with the citizens of Gespe’gewa’gi is crucial to the success of our work. This includes but is not limited to:
Duties:
• Lead and establish a communications strategy that is in line with the Mi’gmawei Mawiomi Secretariat’s strategic plan
• Manage media relations and develop contacts with media members, influencers, and community leaders
• Direct creation of digital, video, audio and print content
• Manage engagement across various platforms and make data-driven decisions
• Manage presence at organizational events, community events and conferences
• Manage website content creation, updates, and ensures all current events are listed
• Direct coordination of the Gespisi’q for timely consistent distribution
• Develop and maintain workplan for communication needs of MMS units
• Direct coordination of the Gnutuquann for timely and consistent distribution
• Ensure all equipment is current and functioning that support video, print and podcasting
• Establish innovative ways to engage with citizens in communications
• Oversee Peigwaptmeg and other land-based communication projects
• Lead team in coordinating community engagement sessions
• Manage budgets related to the deliverables of communications
• Draft content related to the website, social medias, and other means of communication
• Editing content where needed
• Create content relevant to the Units and projects
• Engage with the citizens of the three member communities (Gesgapegiag, Gespeg and Listuguj)
• Direct Communications Team
Skills and competencies:
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, marketing, or a related discipline
• Minimum 5 years of communications or public relations or related experience
• Experience managing digital conte
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency with communications technologies
• Understanding of copywriting, graphic design, layout, and publishing
• Working knowledge of content management systems, HTML coding, and digital graphics production
• Familiarity with social media platforms and social media marketing
• Impeccable copywriting and copy-editing abilities
• Strong leadership track record
• Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills
• Familiarity with adobe creative cloud (photoshop, InDesign, Premier Pro)
• Knowledge of Mi’gmaq rights and assertion
• Bilingual in English and French, Mi’gmaq is considered a strong asset
