Summary of Function:

The Constable, under the direction of the Chief of Police, is responsible for maintaining the safety of the community. This individual will be required to perform Peacekeeping and Police duties enforcing the Federal and Provincial legislation while maintaining cultural awareness. He/she will be a community leader participating in various crime prevention initiatives. The Constable will also be required to develop and maintain a strong understanding of laws and regulations. He/she will be required to have strong verbal and written communication skills in order to be successful in this position.

Job Duties:

  • Protect and serve the community at all times.
  • Take a leadership role within the community.
  • Deliver critical incidence and crisis intervention services.
  • Undertake assignments as required such as traffic point duty.
  • Patrol assigned areas being always vigilant.
  • Respond to emergency calls and administer First Aid or CPR where required.
  • Assist with the containment and preservation of crime scenes.
  • Participate in the apprehension of suspects using the least physical means necessary.
  • Perform duties while maintaining the cultural integrity of the community
  • Attend and participate in court hearings where needed.
  • Answer alarms and investigate disturbances.
  • Adhere to all policies and follow established procedures

Requirements:

  • ENPQ diploma from a recognized Police Institution with a Quebec Provincial equivalency certificate
  • Criminal records check (Vulnerable Sector)
  • Quebec Class 4A driver’s license
  • Drug and Alcohol Screening: to be conducted by LMG Human Resources Unit
  • Oath of Police Officer
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification
  • Good Knowledge of the Community an Mi’gmaq culture
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Behavioral Assessment Report
