Summary of Function:

The Social Services Directorate is seeking self-motivated, energetic, and responsible candidates to assist in carrying out activities with the community youth to develop and promote healthy lifestyles and active living through sports and recreation. The Youth
Care Worker will act as a role model by demonstrating healthy lifestyle, healthy eating and physical activity. They are to provide guidance to the youth and help them develop their self-esteem, self-confidence and leadership skills through planned activities.

Job Duties:

  • Build meaningful relationships through positive daily interaction with the children and youth who attend the center and implement appreciative intervention
    strategies when deemed necessary (i.e. Crisis intervention, problem-solving, etc.).
  • Lead programs in a positive and professional manner.
  • Monitors recreational, sports and leisure activities to ensure safety; provide supervision, emergency or first aid when required.
  • Assist in the evaluation and in documenting the progress of the Youth Centre Program.
  • Maintain a neat, orderly, and clean environment, including all program areas and common spaces (i.e. cleaning up after activities, and placing items back in their rightful place, sanitizing equipment after use, etc.).
  • Maintaining consistency and structure by abiding to and enforcing Youth Centre regulations and expectations.
  • Maintain a log of the Youth Centre’s and recreational areas activities and any incidents that may occur during the Youth Worker shift.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • All duties and responsibilities outlined above are respective, but not all inclusive

Requirements:

  • Ability to work on the weekends and flexible hours.
  • High School Graduate
  • First Aid/CPR Certificate
  • Certificate in Child/Youth Worker would be an asset
  • Experience/knowledge of child development would be beneficial
  • Must submit a criminal/vulnerable sector check
