SUMMARY:Listuguj Hills Community Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government would like to engage community members to obtain recommendations in regards to the future use of the “Busteed House”. \nIt is currently being proposed that the house be transformed into a place of healing. Some ideas proposed: \n\na place people with addictions can go to talk (a safe haven)\,\na place where elders and traditionalists who come to community for ceremony have a place to stay\, and/or\na place to make traditional medicine.\n\nThe purpose of this proposal would be to make this house\, which has had a long-standing negative stigma with our community\, a positive space for healing and well-being. \nOver the course of the last few years\, the grounds have been blessed more than once and traditional healing practices have been taking place on a regular basis. We wish to continue these activities to make the place that has been such a negative in our history a positive for our community moving forward. \nCurrently\, there have been some discussions of having funding dollars given to Listuguj to retrofit the building to our needs from the Ministère de la culture et des communications. We simply need a community supported plan to move forward. \nThis is just a preliminary idea. We wish to engage the community and gather your thoughts. \nThere will be a community meeting at the Elders Lodge on Saturday\, January 18th\, starting at 5:00 p.m. to give ideas and have a discussion. A spaghetti dinner will be served. \nThis gathering will also be live streamed for members living out of the community. \nFor more information\, please contact Chad Gedeon at (506)-987-3070 or by e-mail at councillor.chad@listuguj.ca.

SUMMARY:Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women March with SSHS
DESCRIPTION:As you are aware\, May 5th is MMIW National Awareness day. However\, at SSHS the students and Enhancement staff have been planning a MMIW march. This demonstration is a follow-up to our Winter culture day presentation we had at SSHS on MMIW/Red Shawl Campaign. \nIt has been decided that on Monday\, May 13th\, at 3:20 p.m. we will march to help raise awareness on this national crisis. \nThe staff and students of SSHS (volunteers) will walk from SSHS to the water pavilion on Salmon Blvd. At the same time\, on the QC side we will have community members of Listuguj and surrounding areas start their march from Casino 88 (old subway) area and continue across the Van Horne Bridge. Both of these marches will require police escorts (Listuguj Police Dept. and RCMP). Both groups will be uniting at NB side on Water Street. We will continue to walk on Water Street to the City of Campbellton Pavilion area (across from the big Salmon). \nUpon reaching our destination we will have a guest speaker share their story\, introduce the planning committee\, presentations and thank everyone for participating in this demonstration that is described as a Canadian national crisis that affects many of us. \nApproximate time for the whole event is one hour (20-25 minutes to walk to waterfront pavilion area from SSHS & Listuguj\, 35-40  min. guest speaker & presentation). Once complete (approximately 4:20 p.m.) Listuguj will provide buses at this site so participants can return to SSHS and to Listuguj. \nWE ENCOURAGE AND WELCOME EVERYONE TO ATTEND THIS DEMONSTRATION THAT IS DESCRIBED AS A CANADIAN NATIONAL CRISIS that affects us all!! Please share with your staff\, students\, colleagues and communities. Feel free to bring your hand drums\, medicines and if possible to wear red.
