COVID-19 Update for Christmas Holiday

We understand that community members and residents are seeking clarification on Listuguj’s position following the Premier’s announcement. Our position is that we are not Quebec; and our interpretation of risk differs. It is important to note, that Quebec’s decision to extend restrictions reflects their current position and the situation they are facing. Listuguj is in a different situation and our position reflects that.

Throughout the pandemic, Listuguj has maintained a heightened health and safety plan resulting in only 2 cases in our community. Both have since fully recovered and at the time posed no risk to community spread. Our success is based on the efforts of our community members in following the measures put forth from our government. These measures have proven to be successful, and we will continue to follow the same measures moving forward.

  • After examining the available health information and data, the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government and the Alaqsite’w Gitpu School will remain closed from December 19th, 2020 to January 3rd, 2021.
  • Listuguj residents traveling overnight to ‘Red Zones’ for non-essential reasons will be required to self-isolate for 14 days upon return. Listuguj residents traveling for a day trip for essential purposes (i.e. work, school, medical appointments, custody arrangements, and necessities of life) are not required to self-isolate but must follow health and safety measures listed on our website.

Rest assured; we continue to monitor the situation closely. To ensure our continued success, the Unified Command will work throughout the holiday season to ensure that if changes are needed, Listuguj will be ready.

Let’s all continue to do our part in keeping our community safe. Stay local this holiday season and #ShopListuguj.
