Community Notice Regarding DFO
On Friday, May 22, 2020, two officers from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans entered Listuguj uninvited. Checkpoint supervisor Paul Jacques swiftly dealt with the incident, and the officers were escorted out of the community. This incident was then followed up by the Director of Public Security, Peter Arsenault, who informed the DFO officers of our protocols regarding access to Listuguj, which includes consent from the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government. At no point was permission granted by our Chief and Council or members of our administration. On behalf of the LMG, we would like to thank our staff for their professionalism and for their on-going efforts to ensure the protection of our inherent rights.
