AXON BODY WORN CAMERA ROLLOUT AUGUST 2022

Beginning August 2022, the Listuguj Police Department will begin rolling out Axon Body Worn Cameras for all frontline members during the course of their daily operations and public interactions.

The use of body worn cameras supports the ongoing efforts of the Listuguj Police Department to create a safe, unbiased, transparent and accountable environment for the residents of Listuguj.

The intended outcomes of the Axon Body Worn Camera initiative include:

  • The enhanced collection of unbiased evidence
  • Enhanced transparency with the public body
  • Enhanced officer accountability and professionalism
  • Protection of both the public and officers
  • To assist in an officers ability to de-escalate certain situations

The Listuguj Police Department is committed to delivering to the community of Listuguj, the highest level of innovative policing which is supported by the technology provided by Axon Body Worn Cameras.

Public information sessions will be held in the near future for anyone interested in learning more about our body worn camera initiative.

Sneaker and School Supplies Reimbursement Program 2022

The Listuguj Education, Training and Employment (LETE) Sneaker and School Supplies Reimbursement will begin Monday, August 8, and end on Thursday, September 29, 2022.

CRITERIA

Students must be enrolled in elementary or secondary schools full time, reside in Listuguj, and be listed on the school’s Confirmation of Enrolment (Nominal Roll).

Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) requires that all students’ files include the latest reportcard and an updated valid ID (Medicare, birth certificate, status card).

PROCEDURE

Reimbursement forms can be picked up at the Education Complex. All original receipts must be attached to the form. Once required documents and receipts are received, cheques will be issued and mailed.

Students attending Provincial schools will be reimbursed for sneakers and school supplies. AGS students will be reimbursed for sneakers only. Please note that we reserve the right to refuse items that are not considered school supplies.

The maximum amount reimbursed is based on the student’s grade. (See chart)

AMENDMENTS

These procedures shall be reviewed annually and may be amended from time to time.

The amendments shall be approved by the Director of Education.

No Swimming Notice – Indian Lake & Sipug

Listuguj Community Health Services

NO SWIMMING AT INDIAN LAKE OR SIPUG UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

The Listuguj Community Health Services, in partnership with Environment Canada conducts weekly water testing in our territory.

Test results of the water at Qospem “Indian Lake” and Sipug show unacceptable levels of Ecoli contamination. This is attributed to the high volume of rain and increased wildlife in the area.
The community of Listuguj is advised not to swim in the water until further notice.

As of today, they continue to test, and there is no change. We will continue to test the water and advise when it is once again safe to swim.

Feedback@listuguj.ca was created in late 2021 to help support the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a method for the community to voice their concerns regarding COVID-19. There was a dedicated process in place to have your concerns addressed and responded to in a timely manner.

With Listuguj no longer being in a state of emergency, the e-mail has lost its purpose and has been dormant for a few months now.

With that being said, LMG Communications will be bringing this e-mail back with a new purpose. This is based on the questionnaire results that came from you, the people of Listuguj.

Moving forward, feedback@listuguj.ca will be an additional medium for the community to express themselves, bring concerns to our attention and receive information.

This e-mail will be monitored by the Communications Department. We will work in collaboration with the various departments within the LMG to ensure that your concerns are heard and addressed.

For example, you would submit a question, we will do our best to get you the answer as soon as possible. If we can’t immediately, we will work with the proper directorate to obtain your information and respond to you in a timely manner.

All concerns will be kept confidential when gathering the information for your question or concern. Your name and information will not be used without your permission.

We hope to be able to assist the community as best we could, and we thank you for your support and guidance.

Listuguj Together with 21 First Nations Communities in Quebec and the Government of Canada Sign Historic Education Agreement

Listuguj, together with 21 First Nations Communities in Quebec, Attend Official Signing Ceremony of the Regional Education Agreement

July 14, 2022 (Kahnawà:ke, Quebec) Listuguj, together with 21 First Nations Communities in Quebec and the First Nations Education Council (FNEC), signed a Regional Education Agreement (REA) with Canada strengthening and advancing First Nations Control of First Nations Education for children and youth, from kindergarten to Grade 12. The signing ceremony took place on Kahnawà:ke territory at the Kahnawake Survival School.

Built in the spirit of reconciliation between Indigenous peoples and Canada, this regional agreement is intended to make certain that Indigenous learners have access to education that meets their needs and goals and reflects their respective worldviews and values while respecting the principle of First Nations Control of First Nations Education. “This is the action of reconciliation. The Agreement means that First Nations will lead the education of their children. It means that First Nations will ensure that culture, language, and identity are at the core of everything. It means that First Nations will have the resources that they need to hire and retain teachers and educators that will combine 21st century culture and technology with the historic culture and technology that is still alive today. This agreement has been designed by and for First Nations. This is a new reality in this country: Indigenous leadership, self-determination, true Nation-to-Nation relationships,” Indigenous Services Patty Hajdu said in the press conference.

The federal government, through Indigenous Services Canada, will provide 1.1 billion dollars in funding over five years. The federal government will provide an additional 310 million from Budget 2022, and 790 million will be transferred using existing funding structures.

“For communities, the funding provides for flexibility; we can set our own priorities and goals. The funding is sufficient, allowing each of us to take on First Nations Control of First Nations education,” said Chief Darcy Gray.

The result of 10 years of collective work, the agreement is based on a funding formula designed by and for First Nations members of the FNEC. The agreement will allow for:

  • Culturally relevant curriculum
  • Improved student success (academic outcomes).
  • Recruitment and retention of staff (teachers and specialized resources)
  • Increased student retention and high school graduation rates
  • Integrating technology into the classroom
  • Adequate funding for bus transportation

“This agreement is positive step forward in terms of reconciliation. Gives us the capacity in our communities to start bringing services that are equitable and comparable to provincial levels services. But also, more importantly, in terms of capacity to provide us with the tools to begin the decolonization of our education systems,” Chief John Martin of Gesgapegiag and representative of the Chiefs for the FNEC.

The agreement offers potential for transformation in the areas of curriculum, language, and Indigenizing the curriculum of the programs in First Nations schools. The signing ceremony marked a milestone in the renewed relationship between Indigenous Peoples and Canada and in the realization of Indigenous peoples’ rights to determine their respective pathways in education.

St Anne’s Church Demolition Notice

Please be advised that beginning the week of May 24th demolition of the St Anne’s church and MMS buildings will begin. All safety precautions for the demolition have been approved by LMG’s Health and Safety Department and CNESST. During the demolition work, daily air tests will be taken by an environmental company to ensure that any airborne contaminants from the site do not pose a health concern for our community.

Also, be advised that heavy equipment and trucks will be operating in the area and may cause intermittent traffic delays.

The LMG Health & Safety Department will be present throughout the demolition process to monitor all work activities.
