Lobster Fishing Plan
The Natural Resources Directorate of the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government is currently developing a Lobster Fishing Plan for a new fishing Area.
The objectives of this fishing plan are to:
• Ensure a lobster fishery by community members is beneficial and done safely, while respecting the lobster and the needs of future generations.
• Support community sustenance needs by providing additional access to Lobster.
• Balance community rights with responsibilities to the territory, lobster, and each other.
• Exercise community authority under Listuguj Lobster Law.
• Encourage a co-operative approach to governance and management approach by working with Treaty partners (Canada via Fisheries and Oceans Canada) to respect Lobster and keep community members safe.
